Got me some tyres cheap ass off my SiL 29*2.0 with a more 'road bias' tread ... hoping they will look more correct on my Monstercross than the CrossMarks (2.1) on there now (they are pretty much finished anyway)

Been pondering/dream about a Monster Cross form time to time.

Would like to able to take my current rigid  trail bike  and monster it with minimum input.

Something like slapping on some drop bars and Shimano road cockpit and off I go.

But have the follow questions regarding the current Shimano Road Hydraulic leaver/shifter

assemblies.

1. Is the brake hose, gland, retaining/lock screw assemble the same as in the current Shimano XT spec. In other words, will I be able to disconnect my XT brake levers and connect the hoses to Shimano Road Hydraulic brakes, bleed, and Bob's your uncle.

2. Will a 10- or 11-speed  hydraulic road brake/shifter shift a 10- or 11-speed XT rear derailleur properly?

Thanks in advance to the gurus . .

Wow I actually build my MX without even knowing this thread existed, or knew about it at one stage but completely forgot about it.

Edit: I actually got lots of very helpful tips from the cyclocross thread.

Guys I'm looking for help & advise, I have been having issues with my gears.

I run Shimano Ultegra STI shifters with a 105 RD on 1x10 NW chain ring but I find when hitting corrugated gravel sections at speed I have "chain or gear skipping".

Should I get a Xt clutch RD, will this solve my problem & do you think it will be compatible with my current shifters?

What setup are you running?

A MTB clutch RD should solve your problems, however as you are running Shimano they are not compatible with your road shifters without some help.

If you are running 10 or 11 speed Shimano there is a neat cable pull adjuster by Wolftooth that will let you use an appropriate Shimano MTB rear derailleur: http://www.wolftoothcomponents.com/collections/derailleur-optimization/products/tanpan

I plan on running this on my next build. Goodluck and post pics

Thanks,
