Now I'm tired, this week will be very low as will next week with the Shova and Bestmed Sattelite Classic. Then its back to big blocks for DC and Desert Dash.

 

I hate how quickly CTL drops and how hard it is to get it back up again :(

I just noticed you're talking about TSShr...

 

Might be wrong, as I know TSS based on power/FTP/wattage is calc as per my response.

Yes, I guess that makes it a bit more tricky. Do you perhaps have a few real examples if you use both power and heart rate? I understand heart rate is more variable with same power which stays constant for same power. But does the heart rate variability kind of average out? I hope my question makes sense.

I found another formula to calculate TSS from heart rate and it creates quite big differences!

 

Previously I used "TriBlogs", but you can see how it differs from the new "Mahoney" formula.

 

Those that use their own TSS from heart rate formula, what formula do you use?

Since my ankle issue at I've had some catching up to do.

 

Week 1 - 522

Week 2 - 527

Week 3 - 701

Week 4 - 723

Week 5 - 644

Week 7 - 691

Week 8 - 965

Week 9 - 584

Week 10 (this last week) - 981

 

Thats what it took to get my CTL back to where it was before taking 2 weeks off the bike....

I mostly know the Power meter stuff as I use a Kickr + TrainerRoad for my training.

 

Looking t HR, I don't have ay trust in it anymore... I know my fitness level is allot higher than my wifes, we'll do exactly the same workout on TR, her HR will be 130-145 and mine will be 175-180. She's 6 yrs younger than me...

 

I'll have a look if Coggan's or Friel's book have something about HR and TSS and let you know.

ok, that then makes it make sense.

so thats a TSS 50-65 average/hour.

My limiting thing is available hours... running around 250-280 /week atm on trainer and then anther 150-200 over the wknd depending what I get to do.

Between 12-15 hours, 5 to 6 rides a week.

  • Accuracy Level: hrTSS is quite accurate with steady state effort workouts, but is less accurate for workouts with highly fluctuating efforts.  hrTSS will only be used if there is not enough data to calculate TSS, rTSS, or sTSS, and the below requirements to calculate are met.
  • Requirements to Calculate: Workout time series heart rate data, user threshold heart rate (entered in heart rate zones)
  • What is hrTSS? Heart Rate Training Stress Score (hrTSS) is based on time in heart rate zones (based on users lactate threshold heart rate), and is not as accurate as Powermeter based TSS or running pace baced rTSS.  TrainingPeaks uses the table found in the article below for calculating heart rate training stress score:

i'm a little rusty here

 

do you take FTP as your 60 min NP, or just as 60 min power?

On that subject, using 20min power figures is a bit more "realistic" in SA "racing" scene as you seldom get a race or break or ride that will last more than say an hour at flatbox levels. 

Even in the break you rest every here and there and using 20min (or 2 x 8min) figures gets you closer to determine what you can or cannot do when you are in a race.....
