Your frame might make up 20% of the weight of the bike and probably weighs only marginally more than your fork or wheels alone - the material it's made from will have a relatively minor impact on the overall weight of the bike... People get so worried about what brand of frame it is vs overall bike weight for some strange reason.

I promise that the Santa Cruz stickers didn't make your bike 2kg lighter than another enduro bike. Tyres are probably one of the biggest differences as you can make 0.5kg+ difference in weight for the same cost just due to personal preference.

A very interesting view point from the guy who runs Starling cycles on the weight increase in the industry. From 28m in he chats why manufactures are bulking bikes a bit, the Ebike effect, rollover differences on 29rs etc.

Okay, so my 16kg Enduro is actually okay then :-)

Such a good podcast. Really interesting to hear his views on things like tyres and how good would it be to be able to tune them as you have these expensive forks all tuned up and then an inch of suspension in the tyre that is pretty out of control. Cool guy.

When proper tyres are comfortably over a kg each...

Do you imply that I ride panaracer speedblaster 1.75s?   Granted, I weigh only 65kgs and get away with a bit lighter tyres (Spaz Purgatories/WTB Vigilante) than say a Minion DHF/DHR. But, point taken.

I am geeking out on this bike on another level!

Interchangeable rear triangle for travel from 120mm - 165mm, 27.5 or 29, adjustable reach, air or coil shock, threaded bb, covered external cable routing, integraged storage solution, carbon that is more impact resistant than traditional carbon, affordable. This bike ticks all the right boxes and seems to be extremely well thought out!

That's brilliant, and will open up a whole new bag of worms (and goodies) among other manufacturers.

I'm pretty sure most people will just blindly throw it into longest, slackest and angle'ist of setups right off the bat.

I was about to post that. I've been keeping an eye on GG for a while and really wanted a Smash. For such a small company they are really thinking differently on a lot of levels. I'll admit I'm sad they are ditching all Alu' frames as I still really like the feel of a metal bike alot, especially when I crash hard!

I'm wondering if they are trying to pack a bit too much adjustable rear between 120 and 165 is alot and I wonder how that effect geo and ride. The storage and the cable routing is nice and such a simple win.

Maybe they will have a fire sale of the old frames. :)

Apart from that head tube, it looks rather nice.
