You might ! but some don't even know what that thingy at the back is.

They take it to their LBS

I know someone who has never even removed a wheel - serias - has bike rack and punctures done by LBS

I know two people like that.

How the hell did they bleed the brakes without taking the pads out ?

Maybe they did... maybe those are the "bleeding pads" and they forgot to take them out and put hers back in,

(like I have a set of old worn out soiled pads which I put in for a bleed)

Why not just use a bleeding block.

Quick edit.

It's plausible but I am not buying it, if they left their "bleeding pads" in, the brake would have felt spongy or soft, quality control is lacking big time in that case.

irrelevant. If my wife has troubles with her brakes, she's not going to take pads out. she's going to take it to the shop to get it fixed

she might not but you can. single lady - that might be understandable. takes less a minute to remove brake pads and same again to put them back. Anyway, this LBS are a bunch of wakkers.

and what has the bike shop got to say?

Have not been back yet.....did this yesterday (Sunday) with only CycleLab (Lynwood) and Sportman's Warehouse open for business and parts.

Name and shame. They took your cash, let them take some responsibility.

Edit: if nothing else, it might make them look at their quality control.

Best investment I have ever made: Teaching myself how to fix my own bikes.

The guy who taught me how to race 20 years ago has a motto: If someone put it together, someone can take it apart

This is true for all things except Shimano STI levers......

Agree, but how many other MTB'ers out there are technically inclined and skillful enough to do this. My excuse is however of a "time" nature (not having enough time). A 10-15min job usually ends up being a 3-4 hour relaxation and "battery charging" exercise with the bike servicing. That is why the bike went to the LBS, they do the job in 10-15min.....and I PAY them for their expertise, experience and efficiency.

Do you PAY them to try and kill your wife?

Swapping out a set of pad takes 45 sec - everyone should learn to do it, because if you race in the mud, you WILL need to do it sometime.

I can take STI's apart.... can't put them back together though.... :) OK - sometimes I can and sometimes I can't...
