Learnt a few lessons along the way, and will be making a few modifications. Main modification is to give each tube its own water feed, rather than cascading from the top down, as now, if a tube gets blocked up, the lower tubes get no water flow, and the upper tubes overflow!

The planting medium I’m using falls out of the baskets, floats down the tube and blocks the outflow. Will put a little net around each basket to prevent this.

Collected seedlings from Livingseeds on Friday afternoon. Had an interesting tour around the farm, check out their website www.livingseeds.co.za and look them up on Facebook, Sean is very knowledgeable and extremely passionate about organic veggie gardening.

We’ve planted a variety of plants in the system, will see what works and what doesn’t. I have a feeling the vertical pipes are going to work well. Time will tell.

Finished this recently... it was after about 4 failed attempts in the ground. We have moles the size of jack russles (not joking) here that literally would pull down mielie stalks into their holes like in the cartoons. So much so that anything we plant we have to put in a chicken wire mesh cage underground to protect the roots. This veg villa has double layer of mesh below and the shadecloth is for the killer south easter that smashed garden 2, and the hectic west sun that burnt garden 3. Heres hoping for success this time rounds. Now if only I could find some of vetseuns tomato seeds!

I wanna try and grow coffee beans. But no plants locally, only up north.

Will be using a green house type grower for the coffee.

I bought some seedlings 5 years back. They actually fruited last year. Birds got most of the beans. If you want I can send you some beans in July. I grew them in pots in semi shade in jhb.

Thanks, but dont have a problem for greenbeans. I sell coffee and roasted a fresh batch recently.

Ja, I meant a fresh one you can plant. I don’t have enough to make a cup of coffee after the birds got to them.
