Hi guys, anyone hear that are into enduro racing? I am looking at buying a xc 450 or 500 cc bike, but need some advice.

Thanks

Joe

State your questions.... someone will know someone who knows... :)

But to answer your question - buy a KTM freeride.... you don't need the extra weight of the big capacity bikes.

Hi v12man.

1. Seems like ktm is the big thing now. I am not brand specific. We have a honda dealer in upington. The nearest ktm dealer is in bloemfontein, 600 km away. Which brand has the lowest maintenance and why?

2. We mostly have dunes and amageza type terrain. Lots of open spaces. That is why i am looking at 450 or 500 cc. Is there something else i should look at?

3. Do you guys know of a motorbike forum where i might be assisted with these q's?

Hubbers with experiance with different bikes and their views will be much appreciated. Feel free to pm me if this is ot.

Thanks

Hi joey; I'm a bit out of the scene now but look at Moto101 or Wilddogs sites in SA.

For true enduro the KTM 300 2 stroke is probably king; for more open offroad KTM, Yamaha and Honda all make very good 450cc four strokes but can need expensive maintenance if ridden long distances.

Just had a kid that decided that I would not stop at a traffic circle. And oh was he wrong.  I am not going to try to jump ahead of a Land Rover Discovery.  Those things are farking hard...

In his words, it was a light bump.  Light enough to blow all the lights on the bike. Move the rear wheel by 4 mm slacking the chain all the way

So spent the last hour and half at the SAPS.  So be careful guys.

Hi Guys, question for you, do any of you ride one of the smaller CBR300 or the Ninja300? If yes, some thoughts as a commuter bike please.

Seen the new Yamaha R3?

That's where my money would go. Well equipped, for the size, and they should all be pretty similar really.

I've had a lot of big bikes, but the little bikes are appealing to me more these days.

KTM Duke 390, Honda CRF250L - that kind of thing.

I must be getting old...

But I do enjoy knowing that I'm using all that a bike has to give, and not being afraid of it.

My happiest days of motorcycling were on small under powered bikes.

Couldn't agree more, my RZ50 from years ago was probably my best experience. Although it could have more to do with the freedom it represented. No more begging for lifts, also saved for ages, holiday and weekend jobs, to be able to buy it.

Life was so much simpler then.........
