Once upon a time you got R2 to the pound. I remember that.

I remember in 1987 odd on a school tour we were discussing it...R1 to the dollar and R2 to the pound. When I went overseas in 1995 it was R4.25 to the pound and we stayed with some guys from zim and the zoom dollar was 17 to the pound

First trip to the States, it was R3 something to the Dollar. We felt sooooo sorry for ourselves. Should have bought the place.  ;)

Wouldn't mind taking the Mrs and our little one on holiday to the U.S. visit New York, San Fran, New Orleans etc, but at almost 15 South African ronds to the dollar, I don't think that's going to happen any time soon.

Used to go there every 2nd year and got to know most of the very big place. The 3 cities you mentioned must be the favourites, perhaps with Boston added also?

When I first got my drivers license it was 2002. My Dad had a golf caddy that I used to drive to school etc. He used to give me R200 and I filled up the tank and got change. I used to get 500km on a tank(think it was 55L). Now I drive a navara 4L V6 that costs over 1k to fill up and I don't even get 500km on a tank.

I think Diesel would be the way to go these days, and in a smaller form of vehicle. My Duster was a 1.5 diesel and was a dream when it came to fuel consumption. Now that I've gone back to a petrol hatchback, I sometimes wish I had waited and gone for the new Ford Fiesta 1.5 TDCi.

Um, No thank you. I am a petrol head, not a diesel head. I will drive petrol V motors(or petrol turbo Vrr phaas) until they literally no longer exist. Smaller? Nope I like my bakkie, in fact if I could get one of those massive yank double cabs with a V8 I would but they are not practical on our roads and way out of my price range.

I never bought my bakkie with fuel saving in mind, that's why I commute to work.

I would commute to work again, but there might be a chance I would bike jacked in the area where I work.
