My old lady still records TV shows...

I have a big box full of VHS tapes.. a lot of kiddies movies when our kids were small.. we were probably one of the last to get a DVD player..which funnily enough will soon be the new VHS..

We will probably also be one of the last to get a smart TV[emoji23]

Bit of shame that media is virtual now - are the days of being a collector of tangible touch & feel stuff over? Album covers and inserts, a thing of the past.

I still have a collection of original VHS - fav films, doccies and such. Then when DVD came out and became standardised, I updated some to that media (like all the editions of  Blade Runner), then Blu Ray ... now with UHD being the dogs bollox I'll stick to the torrents, having forked out several times for the same titles.

There's a trend now to release music on vinyl and cassette with a MP3 download link. CD is becoming the forgotten format and vinyl the format for playing and collecting. The cassette is just a silly fad I think

I never understood the allure of owning vast collections of CDs or video tapes or DVDs etc. When it all went digital, it was a real relief- none of that crap to clutter up my house!

Vinyl is a different story.... The joy of flipping the record... Reading the pressing etches.... The artwork and the sleeve notes... The crackle of the needle.

Add to that the ability to hand over a piece of yourself to your children one day... Priceless and worth every square metre of storage space

Urgh, I remember these.

Fortunately I managed to skip this. Although I have a big cd wallet in a box somewhere.

We now listen to music over Bluetooth in the house and cars.

I just discovered that my Bakkie actually has a cd player slot, thought it came without one.

Collecting art is an art :)

Got a few thousand CD's but my vinyl collection is not that big but I am suitably equipped with a SL1210 and tube preamp nogal. I have some cassettes that are collectable imho as well.

And the first thing I do/did when I got CD was rip it. I've also digtised some of my older VHS tapes that really were unique or important. Shared some with the world on YouTube but they keep hitting me with strikes. So ja, totally digital since the early days of mp3.

I had a great stereo Teac VHS machine which heads expired, impossible to get service here, so I keep scouring the pawn shops for a decent HiFI VHS machine.

It is really hard to describe to someone the feel of that soft plastic sleeve that the "record" (vinyl) comes in to protect it from scratches on the "thick" cardboard cover.

And clutter it is, but I find it hard to part with it!!!!

I must have at least 1000 LPs, probably 1500 4 tracks, now 400 CDs, not counting the movie DVDs, VHS and even the odd Beta tape. Probably 20 000 slides I should scan , my house is a bloody mess.

But, pride of place is my bicycle collection, now that you can't digitise.

If I recall correctly vinyl also offers a far superior sound quality vs MP3/4?
