I was looking where I had posted my post count prior to the 2021 upgrade, and the above link popped up in that search.

6 years later, another major change. I think I've been through 3 major upgrades to Bikehub/TheHubSA, including that loss of many threads (although I don't remember it that well), and yet here we are, still at it.

Just looking through some photos of a trip from JNB to CPT back in 2014 and reminded of there being a dozen "Stop & Go" road works on the road. Cost us hours!

My father in law has given me his ID and documentation to renew his car license for him when I do mine in the new week .... the old mans ID photo was taken when he was our age. Really fun to see this.

Edit: I look younger now than he did back then ... and I have more hair on my head too :P

Listening to music and remembering the Soccer World Cup 2010 - opening game - RSA/Mexico and this cracking goal......

What a day that was.

I was rushing home from work on the bicycle to make the opening and then came across an elderly lady who had a flat on her car on Marine Drive in P/Island.

Changed that tyre like a mad man and chased home with a VuVuZela strapped to my commuter bag.

Would go outside during the game to blow it and you would then hear a reply from other houses in the area.

What an experience it was having the World Cup in SA, and I was fortunate enough to work in an area where everyone walked to get to the Green Point Stadium. IT was special.

Amazing time watching that initial match at my mate’s bar (always filled with locals and international visitors) and six matches live. Best of all was having my teen kids from Cape Town with me for six weeks and at matches with me.

Remarkably slick organisation as from the time of parking at bus transport hubs to being seated in stadium never took more than 25 minutes.  SA is able to do things with excellence if we bother to try.

I thought it was all very well done and the excitement leading up to it was great. Guys selling flags and door mirror covers at the robots, everything.

England predictably failed to deliver, the French team fell out with their coach and "went on strike" but the tournament as a whole I thought went very well. Of course Spain won in the end - and I live in Spain now, so people are often happy to hear about what it was like to be in SA at the time.

My sister lived near Waterkloof at the time and I remember them sending up jets during every game to patrol the skies . . .

I privately betted on Spain winning the final, the single occasion I’ve betted on anything at all.  Friends and acquaintances were amazed that the notorious gangster-dealer who socialised with us at my mate's bar honoured his bet with me.

England?  They always seem to hype their tournament hopes on an individual. Beckham.  Rooney.  Kane.  Fail.

Thank goodness that England lost or we’d never hear the end of it.

Spain is on my bucket list, would luuurve to spend time exploring it, Sagrada Familia first.

What a day that was.

My boss at the time bought the entire company counterfeit SA soccer jerseys. I was not aware, they looked legit to me. Imagine my shame when I tried to exchange mine for a smaller size that same day at Totalsports.

What a ******** that guy was.

Do you think he knew?

I am 100% certain he did. He also spent millions on vapourware, knowing it was, and when I called him on it, I was disciplined for concocted issues - this was after the shirt incident.
