look i know we all are Impey fans and truth can be stranger than fiction - but consider how much probenicid the pharmacist had on his hands , how much of that transferred to the capsules, they are put in a container , transported , opened ,filled, maybe transported again in a container eventualy taken and there still is enough to lead to a detectable blood level - that is hard to believe. go and ask any pharmacist when was the last time he had dispensed probenicid bet you the younger ones would say never. add to this the coincidence that this particular pharmacist was working with a drug that is hardly prescibed anymore at the moment that a professional cyclist requires his services. use ockham's razor.

Actually, they outsource a lab to do the testing for them. Have you thought of all the tests that have to be done across all sporting codes, by that said lab, and then they do other testing for hospitals etc. as well. Our Cycling tests are just in the bundle, no special treatment, so it waits in line with all the other tests. SAIDS has no control in the amount of time it takes for the tests to be done and certainly cannot bump one sports persons test up the line, as all the samples are nameless and treated equally.

The only person that can be blamed for being at fault, is the Pharmacist.

Oh and sorry if you mean that the result was presented to them 7 weeks before they announced it, I do not know if that is true, as I have not read any evidence about it, if it is, then I'm certain there is a logical (or logistical) reason to it, if they do not have a reason, then Impey may have a chance to take them on, but chances would be slim for him to salvage any thing lost from SAIDS.

Anyway, I'm happy that he did get the opportunity to prove his innocence, as it did not look likely.

OK "anti radiation fallout suit" ON - so the pharmacist is the "fall" guy now - I would like to monitor his bank account for the next few months

Well no, it looks like SAIDS is going to be according to the article.

Cleared!

August 29, 2014

Happy to confirm that I can get back to racing

On Thursday 28th August 2014, I finally got the chance to prove my case against the allegation: That I had committed an anti-doping violation for a diuretic called Probenecid.

Whilst I never disputed the lab results and the finding, I was put in a very tough position of defending my case due to strict liability. That being said, and after already having to go back 5 months to try find out how this could have happened, I finally was able to prove that this was a case of cross-contamination and I was also cleared of any fault or negligence on my part.

It has been definitely the hardest two months of my life, it has been a huge financial loss and has been tough on my whole family. But I was determined to show that I am clean and that I would never cheat to try get an advantage over my competitors. I am so relieved that this has now been proven.

While I can now put this behind me and move on, I would like to thank my wife, my family, my team ORICA-GreenEDGE, friends and fans who sent me such kind messages during this tough time and I am thrilled that I could prove my innocence for all of you who stood by me. I would also like to thank my legal team Christopher Kok (Webber Wentzel), Ivan Miltz, Justin Bitter, Mike Morgan (Morgan Sports Law) and Chris Hattingh for their amazing help in resolving the matter.

So BS's story get pulled apart here on thehub and people saying that it is not believable but this story is believed in a jiffy...

BTW not saying it should not....just and observation...

Man, I just don't know what to believe anymore...

First thought is, lekker, Daryl's clean! SA's reputation is back intact etc - Happy Days

Then, I'm again reminded of Cycling's history, and the current South African "way" of getting things done - money, corruption, bribery.

As per the statement, this has cost Daryl a fortune - $$$$?

How much is the overturning of this decision worth to Daryl? My guess $5mil+

What are the odds on a pro being handed gelatin capsules by a pharmacist who has just handled probenecid?

What international pro is taking bicarb in gelatin capsules for a race with all the wonder nutrition available these days

How hard is it to fudge a till slip? Backdate a register on a rickety old pharmacy till?

How much to buy out a junior pharmacist to take the fall?

Why is the animosity in the press release aimed at SAIDS for taking their time (in doing their job correctly) over the pharmacist who gave a professional athlete a contaminated product???

Yip, I'm a sceptic, but the sport has made me so

Would be keen to discuss this like a grown up, but the trolls are welcome to sling some mud my way too

Rouxtjie, I'll need that flame suit when you done

Try read the thread again, there are a reasonable amount of skeptics posting valid questions.
