Just a quick bit of info, Jason Smith of Kyalami Crossfit might be going to the opens this year - Regionals(Africa) will be live streamed from Friday 2/06/2017.

Is he the only Saffer going to regionals?

Anyone been trying crossfit out?

 

I get bored easily.

 

So, my usual cycling and running regime is boring me. Feel like changing things up a bit with a bit of crossfit.

 

Welcome opinions.

Not 100% sure but the comment that BOXCHAMP made it sounded like it, there might be a couple of Masters going as well.

 

We have a Ruan Duvenage as well, he is in 10th spot

Ruan Duvenhage is the other male from SA that got in to Regionals.

 

Celestie Englebrecht is the only female that got in from SA

 

In the team competition it seems like we have a couple of representatives:

Cape Crossfit Wolfpack

RTF Predators

CFTijgervallei

Crossfit Brackengate

(might have missed someone else)

 

Realistically though, only Jason Smith has a shot at qualifying for the games. Great experience for the rest to go there and compete at that level.

I do.. 3 times a week.

 

Been on a layoff with Expedition Africa build up and recovery but back to it this week for the fitness classes to ease back in.

 

I am not at all competitive so don't really keep score. I go there, do whatever they tell me to do as best I can, sweat, die, lie on the floor in a puddle of man tears, get up and go to work or for a surf.

 

I really enjoy it. The difference it has made to my paddling and my ability to carry boats and other functional, applicable muscle groups is amazing. Really helped me at EA this year. 

 

Going from a spindly runner/cyclist to having some upper body strength has been great.

 

BUT... as said before, leave the ego at home. There are some guys who just Cross Fit, so take all your time spent on the trails/road and that is what they put into the box. Don't try beat them, rather ask for advice and technique assistance.

Dead lift: 167kg

Back squat:125kg

Clean:95kg

Karen: just finished under 10min

 

Compete in Masters: 45-50

People are quick to slam crossfit and what the chicks look like and how bad/dangerous it is.

 

But the way the workouts are structured have such a massive impact on your day to day life.

You guys are the dudes I look at and think "beast", then go back to my bands and girl weights!

The weights are not important just as long as its challenging YOUR capabilities.
