Too lazy to read the hole thread...

A couple of guys at work own Spez's and give me a lot of flack about my cheap Silverback.

Can't say I'm completely against the brand, but:

1. Don't think I will ever buy their clothing (don't see the point of wearing the same brand as the bike owned)

2. Think their DS bikes on the budget range are well priced and well equipped

3. Think their hard tails are over priced

4. Currently own (and love) 2 sets of MTB tyres, 3 sets of Body Geometry Grips and a saddle and may look at getting a set of shoes in future

I also don't get why the (some) Spez shops don't have any other bike brands on the floor (or why places like Cycle Lab doesn't have Spez's).

Part of the reason why I like Silverback is because they are a bike company (meaning they do bikes, and nothing else).

In a way Scott and Spez is alike, but ja, Scott does not take much flack for some reason...

Always think it's funny when I go flying past guys on their Specialized Epics with my "cheap" SIlverback Hardtail at races.

I used to like spez. Taking my giant for a service at the spez store killed it for me. Among many other things, the rear derailleur came back with the chain threaded through wrong. That mistake you only make once.

Why should I be fast just because I ride a Specialised?

I don't get it.

I have nothing againt Spec Epic . . . I like them   ALOT.

You don't have to be fast .

But of you ride the Ferrari of bikes, it is sad of a guy in a Toyots Tazz  with a koffie blik exhoust smokes you at the robot.

Thats just NASTY . . . .

Then people will say:  "Big Car  . . .  Small Di . k"

I don't really have a problem with the Spez bikes as such, its more the brand hype and make-believe, their dedicated retail shops, advertising,... which is all aimed at leading the owner to believe they are a cut above the rest, and the whole exclusivity thing, which really doesn't work we me at all, in fact turns me off. Its more about marketing that the bike. Its much the same with Bose home audio.

I will confess to being a Cannondale brand loyalist mainly because they always have been very innovative, and continue to be, although they have been swallowed up by a larger multi-brand concern. Most of my bikes were hand made in the USA, that's a nice touch. Latest one has a "made in China" sticker under the BB.

When i sold my awesome Giant Trance 26er i was looking for another 29er trailbike.  My shopping list included a Trance and Anthem carbon 29er  28k and 36k - i rode both the trance didnt feel right and the anthem was nice but to be honest the looks put me off it.

The pyga was great but it was very expensive for an aluminium bike at the time it was R48k.

My Dream bike the SC tall boy was out of my budget at just R35k for a frame.

I then rode both the stumpy and the camber.  Stumpy was a great and i nearly bought it but when i got on the camber it just felt right, climbs like an epic descends like a stumpy , looks awesome the geometry was brilliant for ME and the it was carbon.  I even through in a dropper post and got the whole deal for R38 k.

So to me SPez isnt more expensive than other bikes for my type of bike it was actually the most cost effective carbon bike on the market.  Same as a Giant.

I feel nothing for brands i buy stuff that I like not what people think i should like.  So now i ride  a Giant road Bike , a SPaz Trail bike and yip i even got me a sweet Chinarello hardtail.

I feel sorry for people that see brands and try label people for what they drive/ride/wear.  Serious self image issues i think.

I am not very brand concious, however I would like to,at some stage, own a propper GT Zaskar(all in good time).

I have in my short time in cycling owned a Schwinn,Giant and a Gt(Avalanche),but for some reason I cant see myself owning a Spez.I dont know why,all I can think of is as many have mentioned that people tend to relate Spez riders to yuppies who drive BMW and such.

Have seen people on Spez bikes with extremely arrogant attitude's towards others as if (as someone else mentioned) they are a cut above the rest and are therefore entitled to be infront of you(a different brand rider) in entry lines,on the trails and at the bar after the race.

I know we shouldnt generalise, but because of the actions of these few riders,Spez as a brand does not appeal to me anymore.I would rather ride my Schwinn,Giant or GT and not be seen at all than ride a Spez and be seen as a yuppie cock.

It doesn't matter what bike you have I will pass you. Seen bad attitude riders on all bikes. Amazing how different people only see certain things.

Youre probably right, maybe I just saw someone I didnt like on a Spez once and now I dont like the brand.

Kind'a like :"Honey did you see John(that prick from work)bough himself a new XYZ car,we are so never getting a XYZ car.

WOW.

Now people are judged on what they ride?

What is wrong with you people??

FFS if you buy it-ride it and enjoy it while you can!

I have owned , Merida , Scott and Specialized.

I choose to stick with Specialized cause they frikken awesome  -and YOU!

Just finished a 60km actually and loved it. Off again in the morning on my SPECIALIZED!

All I can say is my mates don't give a..... what we ride , were mates!
