Doing Oceans, Comrades, and Olympics within the space of 4 months is definitely not ideal. She knew this and mentioned it some time ago. I suspect very few athletes could have done this to such a high level. There is no story here, elite marathon runners will only do 2 maybe 3 races a year, so normally 4-6 months apart. Gerda smashed the records of the two ultras she ran this year, that is what she is incredible at. She does hold the SA record, set last year. but that is currently 341 on the all time list. good but not great. Interestingly 5 out of the top10 ladies SA all time are set in the past 2 years, there is a real revolution currently so things could get better. Is it me or is 05-Apr early? Feels like it's migrating closer to the warmer side of the season, was hoping for a late April date. But at this stage I just cross fingers for an entry!

Yes it seems to be getting earlier and earlier and is now only 1 week after Ironman South Africa in PE. Also provisional date for Comrades 2025 is 8 June. Yet to be officially confirmed.

Shebeen Posted September 5 Posted September 5 got a weird one here. Adidas terrex shoes, they're holding up really well except for a bit on the instep(?). done about 400km possibly my stride where they rub, thinking just using some plaster tape over them to hold it all together longer. don't think it could stictch bag. suggestions welcome. I get the same wear pattern on almost all running shoes from brushing past the other leg. It gets to a certain point and stops wearing down usually. Won't affect the shoe performance from my personal experience.
ScottCM Posted September 16 Author Posted September 16 With spring in the air for most of the people on here, how is everyone doing? What events do you have lined up, thinking about for the year ahead?
dave303e Posted September 16 Posted September 16 back and running consistently after the multiple broken toes followed by a chest infection and tick bite fever. Been a delightful few months... Went under 5min a km for a 12km last week so it is surprisingly ok. For the year ahead I think I am going to dial back to running twice a week and riding most days. Looking at dabbling at a little mtb race from Pmb to Rhodes in June next year so running will take the back seat, will just keep it up for the hike a bikes. it is certainly a million times easier to ride and run with a bit more heat and a bit more light in the mornings ScottCM 1

What events do you have lined up, thinking about for the year ahead? Enjoyed a series or Park runs (walks) dring winter. Progressed from 5 to 15km. Doing another on 24 September, part of their series on public holidays. Though the emphasis now is to get bike fit for Winelands on 12 October. Then to find a balance between these two mistresses .... Working on getting my walking pace down to 8:30/minute, currently at 8:45 for a 5km. The 15km was done at 9:49/km (given the rain and slippery terrain this was actually not too bad) .... too slow to finish a half marathon before cut off time .... Plan going forward .... keep doing the TrailFun park run series. And keep working at my pace sessions around the dam ..... Edited September 16 by ChrisF ScottCM 1
