Marathon des sables is around 4000 euros plus travel etc. they run a shorter event which is about 2500 euro.

kinda agree. Probably closer to 40 grand zar if not more.

a recent 2 day event here which included a tent overnight was 280 quid.

Got an update on the price... 2500 pounds, so 60k for the entry.

That is pretty elite level pricing for a local saffa

I was hoping for saffa pricing but alas. They targeting non residents with that pricing.

60 grand. Plus travel etc. I’m in for 90 grand. Rather do MDS for that coin.

could win euromillions and then just pay the piper.

got the Dyna6 at R1250 for wifey. (comes with a bladder too which retails at R1050).

passed the test up the mountain, just wants to find a better way to stash the bite valve when running. highly recommended.

doing puffer next weekend, and then noticed that one of the sponsors is a local manufacturer

https://rockrabbitsports.co.za/product-category/hydration-packs/

haven't used them but they do look very well thought out - they even added a feature for bus drivers to hold the pole! and you're putting food on the table for someone down the road.

I ended up getting another Distance 8 for R999. When I considered the mileage, the repairs were minor, and for that price, it was a no-brainer. Now the wife can carry her own snacks and water up the mountain.

Any have any experience of Karkloof 100 miler? With min dae (Sub 40days) before this years edition, I'm fishing for some insight, tips or anything of value really?

I have a few finishes there and one DNF, fastest finish at 23:30. I have also run an aid station and was supposed to run the turn point last year and know the organizer very well. Dm with questions if you want, happy to answer.

The route itself is usually actually really not too tough. Lots of rolling hills but almost all runnable so pacing yourself is key.

The thing that will make the race is the weather. You can expect anything from 35degree heat to snow. I would make sure you have a good seconding team that has all of your gear well organised so you can have whatever you need for when the weather hits. If they can have a van or a big boot car laid out will so you can have everything at your choice

Nutrition is a big one and try run as light as possible. My best was always treating it like 10x 16km races. Reset each aid station, fuel and kit for the next leg and go for it. But DM if you have any questions

I am getting the Decathlon Kiprun unit next week.  Optional 1 or 2 liter bladder, with various pockets along the front.

Looking forward to trying it out.

Been a casual lone runner for years, enjoy going out on my own, early in the mornings.

Last cycle or run event was in 2015, training nowadays is for health and sanity.

What is the feedback on the Cape Crusade Trail?

I did one of the african X events 3days before, so as similar to this as you could find but way more than 100 entrants. We went from somerset west to botrivier. probably 30-35km a day rather than 20km(or 10!).

So much sitting around.

Also remember loads of fancy SUVs in the parking lot and peacocks in the race village, even more than the mtb scene. If that's your vibe, wasn't mine.

Don't think I will make the Two Oceans this year any cool trail / road runs you guys can recommend between Jan - May as I need to start training for something ?

Ideally in Gauteng or 3ish hours from JHB / PTA.
