SwissVan Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 For those who are thinking about switching to a wrist based heart rate watch and wondering how accurate they are..... today I compared a polar M200 with my polar V800 on a 8 k run.... and I was impressed the m200 was very very close to the v800 every time I compared them. Have not looked at the actual graphs yet but the average and max heart rates are the same. Awhile ago I did the same comparison riding my IDT with the same result. ScottCM, EmJayZA and Hacc 3

I have compared Wrist based (Garmin 735xt) to a TomTom strap monitor system and my results are the same as yours. The max and average are the same however the wrist based system seems to have a slight delay compared to the strap. This delay is something I have no qualms with an have now moved to exclusively wrist based. AAMOI, strap systems are not 100% accurate either. While they are more accurate than wrist based for me this is something I can live with. I wear a HR monitor to train in certain zones and Vitality points . D Frosty and ScottCM 2
Jackes Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Poobies must have done a nice deal with these Glide 9's, they cost R1,900 - R2,000 otherwise.  Fitted them yesterday for interest sake, feels VERY nice.  Kinda soft underfoot. https://www.poobienaidoos.co.za/shop/adidas-supernova-9-mens/ https://www.poobienaidoos.co.za/shop/adidas-supernova-mens/ Lexx 1

Tubehunter Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Try Poobie's as mentioned earlier. They will beat any price in za, and super fast courier service. Already price checked them and they're the best retail pricing for sure. I have had the odd Nike store sale madness where older model Pegasus were sold for less than 1K. Need to go and hear if they're planning another one of these events soon! If not, Poobie's will get my order. Lexx 1
GemmerKat Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Congrats, good time that for a first Half marathon. Guess i'll see you in a months time at the Vaal Marathon for the half? Will be there for sure. Not sure if I was ambitious or plain stupid but already entered for the full a while back. Some of the members in my running club advised to avoid injuries to rather stick with the half, although I feel I managed to do the half comfortably and the recovery seems to be going good. 21,1 is my now my longest distant to date. I seems in my nature to push the boundaries. Should I rather stick with the half ?

DDid you read my review on wrist-based hr vs chest based I did in August/September last year? I did both running (plodding along as I prefer to call it) and cycling (indoor and out) - using wrist-based on the 735XT and strap-based on my 310XT. The results were almost identical, and as you have already mentioned, a wrist-unit is good enough for training and meeting Vitality's requirements. mecheng89 Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 Similar for me... My club is my schools old boy club, been a member through waterpolo/rugby for over 20yrs... and running the last 5yrs. It's over 30 minutes away for me (on a good day - northcliff to houghton), so just not viable for club runs, time trials etc. But I do see them at all the races, we cheer each other on en route, we have a beer and boerie roll after every race in the shade of our gazebo. My only bit of 'work' is we organise one race a year (and help at 1/2 others if we can), which covers most expenses and allows the club to subsidize the odd bit of merchandise for big events (a Comrades jacket/cap or something cool), a lekker pre Comrades breakfast, post Comrades aches & pains party - accom and travel costs for the Comrades seconds etc It's such a big part of the whole journey to Comrades... wouldn't want it any other waySJC? Old Johannians?
