Yeah, I'm not convinced he's done... he certainly doesn't seem to be slowing down. The 99 seconds he needs, 1 second a km get's him nearly half way, then you've got some km's where he totally slacked off and ran 2:58's etc. Better pacing could help, maybe a hint of a tailwind etc

His objective this run was the world record, and he totally smashed it - I honestly believe this guys got it in him, he's made it believable, and that suddenly makes it possible.

I do look forward to what his plans are

He had a tailwind for the second half....

Only Kipchoge will know if he ran the best race of his career or whether he still left something out on the course (and possibly could have gone faster)

Once the dust has settled and he has time to reflect, am sure he will let the world know in some interview.

Whilst I did not watch the race, I saw the highlights and finish... and definitely think he had more to give the way he finished.

I think he will go close again before his time is up.... he knows what it takes and am sure will know where to improve....

its not in a professional athletes interest to break a record by a long way, its in his interest to break records regularly, they are incentivized to do so and stay relevant regarding sponsorships etc. Rather break the record 20 times than once.

Certainly believe we will see a sub 2 in the next 10 years or so. The record itself may not be absolute due to conditions on the day but i believe it will happen.

I reckon the record can be broken pretty soon. A 1% improvement shouldn't take 20 years.

I hope it lasts though. Only because I really like Kipchoge. I want him to be celebrated by more people firstly, and for a long time. He's just a classy athlete.

I felt similar when the 400m record was broken (it helped that it was Wayde that broke it..), but I really liked Johnson and wanted him to be the best for a long time.

So a follow up from my last post. I decided to have a run on Tuesday and Today. Did about 4km per run and I felt good. I am planning another run on Saturday (either parkrun or my own)

Will Target 5km per run next week and take it from there.

The new shoes are actually doing just fine, comfy and light, so happiness there.

Just glad to be back and starting small. Might be doing a 15km race in November so my excitement is elevated

Not gonna lie it is a weird feeling, last year I was a lot less nervous, think underestimating it I was just being the usual dumb self thinking how hard can it be.

This year my 4 week prep has actually gone perfectly, the base before 4 weeks was really good which is the reason I committed. I snuck in a few nice long testers and upped the usual training by about 20%, snuck in a few 18 hour weeks(varied between run cycle and paddling). Going in 100% injury free, Stravastix says I am fitter than ever, taper has been good and I feel fresh. Organisation is a lot better than last year, food and fluid plans and packing and pacing and all sorts dialed so I am feeling more confident but more scared than last year.

But this is 100 miles and something can and will happen it is all about fighting through whatever it is...

@ CBlake you guys still gonna run? Good luck if you do, take it easy...

Good Luck to Mrs Barry Stuart as well

The 50miler route will actually be a really lekker run...

We've been looking forward to this so much, and for so long. We'll be there. Common sense doesn't apply when race day comes around unfortunately.

Worst case we just go for a really long walk...

18 hours weeks!! Where do you get the time? My longest week has been 7 hours!

Usually that number is closer to 12 I just upped it for 2 weeks but after Karkloof I have a few more big weeks planned for full moon.

Situation and locations makes it easier. I work 6:30-15:30, can be running, paddling or cycling/wattbiking by 15:45, usually done by 18:00 some days 18:30 and then sat sun either do combo or an LSD...

Not going to lie having work 11mins from home and all facilities needed within 3.5km of work means I don't lose time to traffic ever and thankfully the GF is very supportive.

My longest week(s) also in the region of 7-8 hrs. And usually then I'm not very productive at work. On the other hand, I work for a SOC, so how productive can I really be...

Runners Pfffft...

Take up triathlon for a year or 2 and see quickly how double digit weeks become the norm

Or just run twice a day on some days

Training for worlds in November I have been doing comfortably 15 to 30 hour weeks.

Last week I rode and ran during the week (roughly 8 hours) and raced the wcad24 for 23 hours.

Ran again on Monday, rode Tuesday and this morning and will keep going until after the U mid October.

I sometimes clear my inbox early (like half past 4) then head out up the mountain or on the road, at the desk by 9, leave work between 4 and 6 pm and head out again or go for a surf.

Weekends I will put in 10 hours plus.

There is always time if you make it.
