Jewbacca Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 Dear all, I have due to foreseen circumstances an entry to Rhodesrun I cannot use. I am musing on the best way to pass it on to a deserving runner. If you are such a runner please let me know. I will reserve the right to pass it on to the runner who is IMHO the most deserving. Please note that it is just an entry. Transfer costs, accommodation, transport, training and other expenses are not included. Also you MUST make it over MAVIS BANK before the 2 hour cut off, so I will be looking at your STRAVA to determine if you are fit enough. GraemeHi Graeme I don't usually use Strava but for this I am willing to start again! It's been a dream of mine to run RhodesRun since the 90's. It's also exactly a month after the MacMac100 miler so I should have recovered and run the legs out perfectly after some good base miles! 29th of June is race day? With the missus expecting 1st week of August it would be an amazing swansong before packing in the adventures for a life of nappies, poop, vomit and poverty! DJuice, CobusV, Lexx and 3 others 6

jdwet1980 Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 On the Parry program I need to do 90s hill intervals. I couldn't find a hill that long near my house. The struggle is real.2 minutes drive to Kotskoppie on Bultfontein road...

Barry Stuart Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Bruce and his family bit more than they could chew in Bloem... What's the backstory here?
Barry Stuart Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Well done to Barry and Jess...!!! Jess came in 2nd at the PMB42 in an amazing time of 3h15.59, Barry came "jogging" past us at the finish at 3h00 looking like he was just going for a warm up. Truly impressive guys!! Thanks, Candz. Such a lovely course that, it's got corners in all the right places to keep you going. How slippery was that roadworks section before Duzi, though? I nearly went bum over belly there. So bleak that I didn't see you guys at the end, would love to have shared a coffee (or a beer!) afterwards. I see you and Haydn ran great times as well, congrats! candz1 1
Mudsimus Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 What's the backstory here? The current event director refused to sign parkruns rules and regulations for 2019. He was removed, runners revolted and it turned into a circus. A lot of unnecessary politics. Barry Stuart 1

He was removed, runners revolted and it turned into a circus. A lot of unnecessary politics. Oh, right. Was it related to the whole ban on Parkruns holding pre-event runs for their volunteers? I know that my local event was really upset about that as it has always had a thing where volunteers can run at 7am after setting up and prepping the course and still have their result count.
Mudsimus Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Oh, right. Was it related to the whole ban on Parkruns holding pre-event runs for their volunteers? SeaBee Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Sooo... when are the volunteers supposed to run?!
Pieter-za Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 (edited) Sooo... when are the volunteers supposed to run?! If you are volunteering as eg a 'tail walker', parking marshal, pre / post event setup etc you can still participate. (I have 'sacrificed' some Parkruns to volunteer, no big deal as another volunteer will do the same for me next time when I run. (I don't have OCD to chase run milestones.) Also, at my home parkrun certain volunteer positions can be filled by fast runners) Edited February 26, 2019 by Pieter-za
Mudsimus Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Sooo... when are the volunteers supposed to run?!When they are not volunteering? The reasoning behind this is that apparently parkrun cant get liability insurance for those that run outside of the parkrun time frame. A simple solution would be to make volunteers sign a disclaimer.
Pieter-za Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 (edited) A simple solution would be to make volunteers sign a disclaimer.Which has some other implications I believe, eg an organisation can still be held liable if the participant passes away say during the 'pre-run', as you can't sign away the rights of your dependents?? Ferret69 Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Wow, awesome time Ferret. Congrats. Thanks Lexx, as everyone has said above Deloitte is actually a super race on a scenic challenging course. Plenty Climbs but also plenty downhills to recover in between. One of my favourite races in Gauteng. I "led, paced" a sub3 Bus for a few guys from our Club to get their A seedings.. We started with 7 of us and attracted a bigger group of closer to 15 during the first lap all on the same mission. Unfortunately, even though we only ran 88.42 first lap it exploded the 2nd lap leaving only 3 of us to finish in 2h56, and that was with a fast finish when I knew that the 3 that were left were strong enough for a faster last 4kms. Was pretty hot out there the last hour... felt very sorry for the guys out there for 5-6hrs. Well done to everyone else, and to Barry and Jess for PMB. Barry, I believe you are going to join our Wednesday morning group soon. Fun day out, just another tick on the road to Oceans and Comrades.. Stretch, Barry Stuart, CobusV and 1 other 4
