nathrix Posted April 5, 2016 Author Posted April 5, 2016 I know I posted something similar before, but...the big question I have is; when is it going to break...I will be VERY impressed if it lasts to full race distance of the Senior TT. Ian Lougher actually comes out of retirement to race the Suter MMX 500 at IOMTT! What a legend and that on a legendary two-stroke motorcycle! Ian Lougher confirmed to ride Suter MMX 500 at 2016 Isle of Man TT Races http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/ian-lougher-to-race-suter-mmx-500-at-the-isle-of-man-tt/ Suter Racing has confirmed that Ian Lougher will race the Suter MMX 500 at the 2016 Isle of Man TT Races fuelled by Monster Energy. Welsh racer Lougher made his Isle of Man Mountain Course debut in the memorable 1983 Manx Grand Prix Newcomers Race, finishing third to Robert Dunlop and Steve Hislop.Lougher’s ‘two stroke’ credentials include being the only rider to win five consecutive North-West 200 125cc titles and numerous Southern 100 wins. He took his first TT victory in the 1990 Lightweight TT in one of the closest races in TT history, winning by only 1.8 seconds from Steve Hislop. Lougher set a new race record and a lap record that wasn’t beaten for nine years. Lougher enjoyed a near 30 year TT career between 1984 and 2013 which included ten race wins and a record 126 stars, and the most replicas awarded to a TT rider, before retiring after the 2013 Senior TT. However, the now 53 year old continued to race on the TT Mountain Course in the Classic TT, which included wins in the 2014 Bennetts 500cc Race and the Motorsport Merchandise Formula 2 Classic TT Races. He would have regained his 500cc Classic TT title but for a thirty second pit lane speeding penalty in 2015. Lougher will be reunited with an old rival from the 1991 250cc European Championship, Eskil Suter, now the CEO of Suter Racing. Commenting on his return to the TT Lougher said:"I really warmed to Estil Suter’s approach on this project. Despite the emotions that are undoubtedly attached to something of this nature, Suter Racing is approaching it both objectively and professionally which is the only way to go racing on the TT course.” He continued:“We want to learn the MMX 500 in the next three years to tackle the TT step by step before we can be properly competitive and it might seem strange for an old fella to say it but you can always learn something new on the Isle of Man. However, I’m sure the spectators are in for a treat from the word go.” Captain Fastbastard Mayhem 1
Headshot Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Found these old beauties under a cover a couple months back... I know this is not a two stroke..."wild thing" runs like a two stroke...when you doing 120 km/hr and still in first gear you just know when you bump it into second it comes up like my old YZ 490 use to...just wish I had better control between my brain and the throttle and a more understanding wife...I sold all my bikes because I was told they too dangerous...then I go get a bicycle thinking ok much safer [emoji57]I used to own a CR 430 which predates that 450R in the pic, I think. It was one of the first with prolink rear suspension and an absolute beast to start especially when hot. Sold it many years ago to some enthusiasts who were going to restore it.

Andymann Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 So in my evening Internet trawling (now that I canned DSTV) I might have boght some more ***.... After finding out DT200 servo motors and CDI's were super scarce and not wanting to have a backup, I bought this.... Turns out it must have been raced at some stage because it has got some pretty radical porting. So now I'm contemplating rebuilding the motor. You know, just in case I can find something to squeeze it into! Captain Fastbastard Mayhem, Wannabe and Grebel 3
Andymann Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 In my time at Yamaha SA, we brought in a few of these as samples to test - they looked awesome, but with an air-cooled 153cc 2-valve motor designed to run on Indian 87 Octane they barely topped 100kph. I happen to know where one is languishing unwanted and unloved.... I'm sure that spare DT200 motor will slot in there without too much effort. Would love to sneak up to a few unsuspecting KTM's and CB300's :-) Wannabe, V12man, the nerd and 1 other 4
dev null Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 (edited) A while ago my son wanted an Aprilia RS 125 with a sore heart. I had to throw out a lot of anchors and counter arguments as to the viability of it to a long and fruitful life for a young man with a passion for anything with 2 wheels. http://images.mcn.bauercdn.com/upload/628/images/14_rs_125-01.jpg Edited April 6, 2016 by Moridin Gandalf 1
cfcjim Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 A while ago my son wanted an Aprilia RS 125 with a sore heart. I had to throw out a lot of anchors and counter arguments as to the viability of it to a long and fruitful life for a young man with a passion for anything with 2 wheels. http://images.mcn.bauercdn.com/upload/628/images/14_rs_125-01.jpg Dirt biking first, you learn control and how to fall off/not fall off at slow enough speeds and (usually) soft(ish) ground so you don't hurt yourself too much. Then, once the skills have been learnt, possibly graduate to the track then road. I've been riding since the age of four, 48 years later I'm still alive, had a few accidents but the dirt learning saved my life or prevented my entry to a life threatening situation, more than once. An RS125 would be very high maintenance but gorgeous and he'd be the envy of his mates. But I completely understand your reticence. And I'm sure there are plenty more who'd agree with you. nathrix Posted April 15, 2016 Author Posted April 15, 2016 (edited) IOMTT only 3 weeks away! Facebook link https://www.facebook.com/suter500 27 April 2016 Successful first ride for Ian Lougher and his TT-Suter MMX 500. The Welshman was really happy with the handling of the motorbike. „I expected the 2stroke also a little bit more diabolic, but the riding of the bike is very smooth. Still a beast, but big pleasure. And in fast corners it’s unbelievable handy“.The Suter factory team looks now forward to the next test days middle of May.#suterracing #suter500 #mmx500 Edited May 6, 2016 by nathrix ® ©™ Grebel, Captain Fastbastard Mayhem and cfcjim 3
