if one did a sub 3 on the 94.7, will a sub 3 CTCT be in reach?

I know the CTCT is a few km longer, but after Suikerbossie it is all downhill to the finish.

I did a quick comparison between 947 and CTCT to see what finish time at CTCT has the same proportion of riders completing it as a 3hr 947, and the short answer is somewhere close so 3hr30 would be a realistic target for a person who barely made a 3Hr 947. Scale accordingly for any additional wind and atmospheric factors

A 2:40 at 94.7 would give you a good chance at a sub 3 Argus the weather on the day play's a very big role. This year only 886 riders did a sub 3 and that was in about as good as you get conditions.

I must admit, that I am bit annoyed by that time, we were on for a 2h45 group MTB ride, till we lost a buddy coming down JanSmuts when the LanceArmstrongs in B/C came racing past. (it astounds me the risks that they are willing to take on a funride like this.. but anyway), we then stopped and waited for him, then rode home very slowly.....

Did have a bit of a race in the last few KMs against some very aero looking roadies. Got into a sprint in the last 300m, kicked hard the last 200m, was either going to die or beat this dude. Heart Rate last 30seconds averaged 203bpm and peaked at 208  previous record was 207.

Those are some impressive numbers!!! especially the second lap time on a MTB. We did 3:10 with a 5-10 min stop but were hauling a$$.

This was my 2nd 94.7. in 2015 I completed in 4h20. My target this year was 3h30 but was nervous because I did Mcsteel and Satellite in 3h45. Met a nicechap at the start who told me he did 3h20 last year and we agreed to work together for a 3h30. around Kyalami people where passing us on the left and right..I told him our average speed was a bit slow at 24km/h, he said I should not worry we aren't too far behind... after Kyalami towards Woodmead I just thought there is no ways we will make 3h30 at our pace I just decided to increase the pace and my friend did not respond. ..I kept on catching a lift of passing groups for few minutes on and off. ..I was ecstatic to finish in 3h18. Next year's target 3h10.

Insane...if my HR got up to 208 my head would explode!! The head on my shoulders would probably explode too!

To the guys that were comparing number of sub 3's over the past 3 years.

Did you normalise your data?

2016 route was slightly shorter. Most people were measuring about 92.5ish km. Call it 1.5 km which is about 3 min at 30km/hr and less climbing I think by about 80m.

So if the data is normalised you will have less sub 3's this year.

Guys hitting 90km/h astound me. I am happy to never go that fast! I hit a cats eye (road bike) going 65 just after Kyalami and I thought my wheel would break in half, convinced I would have a puncture for sure but it was fine all the way to the end. But I never made it passed 65km/h again!

My top speed was 88km/h down Clearwater Hill once in traffic. That was as fast as I could pedal with the gears I had!
