Apparently Cavendish shouts "Track" at Marcel Kittel and Andre Griepel as he passes them to win a stage ;-)

Are Kittel and Greipel the jealous losers he was talking about the other day????

On Sunday morning I rode at Thaba trails. I was about half way or so on my ride and entering a long stretch of single track section with bushes on each side.

Had a quick look behind me and saw a chap coming up a few meters behind me and was already starting to move ever so slightly to the left to give him space to pass.

He had caught up to me and so politely said "I am going to pass you on your right, ok?". I then said sure no worries, moved as much as I could, and he passed me and cycled on.

It was brilliant, he was polite, calm, didn't scream passing right or track or whatever they call out, and was a great experience. Well done to that chap.

Wish there were more people like that on trials.  The no 1 reason I paid R6000 for a bike for my wife that is gathering dust in the garage...

That's a real shame. I was doing too much huffing and puffing to just say thanks for the good overtaking and he was rather fit and cycled off rather quickly. It really was such a good experience and also wish there were more cyclist like him.

Here's an idea to the race organisers.

How about A and B line singletrack sections every few hundred meters. Then the racing snakes with the skills can overtake the slow rider trains that seems to frustrate so many riders.

If I were you, I would take that bike, ride around and race people with more expensive bikes! Make sure you beat them, get a sense of satisfaction about them and their bank owned Fortuners. Apparently its awesome!

Of all the thousands of ppl that pass me, I can truly say I've encountered maybe 3 a*holes in the few years I've been on a bicycle.

Had a laugh on Sunday was behind 2 guys on a jeep track and they were busy chatting so decided to pass them, said to the guy on the right, passing on your right - to which he responds ok - and then proceeds to move right - and I'm trying to go right - what little track stand I can do helped in not colliding with the guy as he eventually pulled over off the track into the grass to let me pass. Was funny.

The only real little sh*t was about 14 and 50kg's and he was irritating everyone. The rest, for the most part are cheerfully oblivious, but never mean.

Other than that, I honestly can't remember hearing anyone shouting over my screams to 'Keep leeeeft!'

With one exception I have only ever experienced courtesy and respect from people coming up behind me. Case in point on Sunday on the Funky Fynbos one of the 64km riders came up behind me on one of those precipitous rocky downhills. He asked to pass and I said "When I've got a chance I will pull over when it's safe for me". He backed off - gave me room which I really appreciated because I was having to concentrate like crazy - we got to a flatter section about 2 minutes on and I told him stopping on right - he whizzed past and thanked me and I continued on my way. Textbook. A real pleasure and everyone continues having fun.

I would, but the bike is pink... So I will need a pink kit and tassels. Oh and a pink lid.

I think most people started with the el cheapo bike.  My first bike that I used in races was a Avalance Reflex.  Never ended first, but had fun on it.  And in 1999 most people were more relaxed and cared about each other.

watch a few seasons of AMA Supercross and outdoor MX and you realise all passes on mtb are fairly tame and friendly.

Funnily enough in bike racing, you hold your line as best you can at all times, and the person overtaking must just make a plan to get around you, should be the same on a mtb, the person behind(doing the overtaking) is usually a faster and better rider so they can use those skills to get by safely.
