I ordered some bits for an upcoming build and this is what happened:

Saturday 30 April - online order placed, minutes later got e-mail confirming order and apology for delay in shipping due to Mayday public holiday.

Monday 2 May - got e-mail confirming goods shipped from Ireland

Tuesday 3 May - got phone call from DHL as well as e-mail asking for VAT payment. Did EFT late Tuesday

Wednesday 4 May - parcel delivered to my office in Cape Town by lunchtime

Everything in order   I wish everything worked like that!

lol...Friday mid-morning ordered...Sunday, email from DHL with payment details for SARS and their fee, Monday delivered....

So paying the little extra for courier from CRC is definitely worth it IMHO :)

I'm looking at doing the same re: DHL. Glad to hear it was a good experience.

P.S. Good old SAPO hitting the streets again for more money. Independent couriers rubbing their hands in glee, I'm sure.

Totally understandable given the lack of service locally. I asked a shop in Jhb for prices on Campag components last week Thurs. One of the items they had in stock but without a price and the assistant had to find a price. Needless to say I'm still waiting for a response.

I buy up 90% of my bike stuff from CRC with DHL.

Every order is a good experience.

For custom parts for your  build or upgrades they are the bomb.

And not just custom parts. If I want a whole group-set or a 1X11 drive train or something, it is cheaper from CRC even after transport and import VAT.

LBS always has very little that I want . . . or do not even know what I was looking for.

Most LBS just cater for the masses that wants a bicycle of the floor and

in many cases fork out big $$ for the crappy components.

Yes, if you want your stuff to get here quickly, you must use the courier option. I had a bad experience with the priority tracking service. I normally do courier option, but these items were not a priority for courier option, and was a small order.

Order took almost 3 weeks to arrive in CPT. The problem is they dont use parcelforce anymore, they use some other service called 'trackmytrakpak'. I read up on this service, and the reviews are not great. Got CRC to refund my postage costs.

And you avoiding making J & J super rich.

Pretty sure a good percentage of people are bringing in their own goods due to the ridiculous prices the local bike shops charge.

and you porn stuff !!!!

What really pi$$es me off with FedEx is that you PAY IN FULL for delivery online and then they add:

1. Processing Fee: ZAR175.86;

2. Disbursement: ZAR27.86; and

3. Release verification: ZAR2.36

That's an additional ZAR206 per delivery...over and above the full international delivery fee already paid.

Can anyone explain how they can get away with the above?

DHL is the best value for money, especially with the post office talking about going on strike again. Worst mistake ever is to get something sent to you via snail mail, once it hits South Africa it becomes "dead snail mail"!

I only found out about that after placing an order from China.... My parcel has already arrived at JHB Intl Mail Centre. Now I wait.......

Edit: these okes are actually striking themselves out of a job. Postnet/Speedservices counter to counter is R99 and takes about 3 days. XOC is R114 door to door overnight..... #Justsaying

Damn these companies that make the rest of the world look average. It's time we as the hub-mob take a stand against such blatant efficiency and demand the return of our poor standards of service delivery, which we are so unwilling to embrace...

Now I will be forced to buy something from this reputable institution and expect to have it delivered timely and at a reasonable cost.

Aaagh the frustration of good service...
