[Event] 2017 Cape Town Cycle Tour - Argus

I did it last year just to do it and did 4:59 on my old Momsen hardtail - subsequently sold. I've ridden up Suikerbossie a few times since then on my MTB and my newer road bike so I know it can hurt but it doesn't kill me the same way that that bloody Dorstberg hill at Meerendal does for example.

Is this your first Argus?

A lekker leather bush hat. I will cook and season it beforehand.

I'm gonna hold ya to it Moridin!!

Imagine dragging a 16kg bike up Suikerbossie in 6:50 pushing a 44-28. I feel the pain in the quads already.

lol yip. I know that pain and going to feel it again soon.

How would strava know that its a tandem though?

You didn't tell them? Shame on you. I think it's got to do with the max speed and where you applied speed compared to jcza. That extra 9kph max takes some watts due to the effects of aero drag. Maybe strava is quite clever after all.

Smits South Easter Run - 4m36s / 4.4km / avg 58.3kph / max 76.7kph / avg 629 watts

smitswinkel to red hill time split - 9m56s / 8.0km / avg 48.7kph / max 76.7kph / avg 517 watts

My best on a COMPACT  down there is 5:00 flat, avg of 53.6km/h, max of 64.8km/h.

No power or cadence figures. Not bad for an old toppie of 48 at the time....  :whistling:

Carbon, I think I need to invite you to the corporate tent after the Argus for a little massage to release some stress! :D

I better start praying for that 40kt SE, since I have now incentivised you.

Power numbers appear too high

Check out the variations on power for my 5 best times, same bike, same weight. Compact crank 50-11 which I binned straight after 2014 when I got dropped by B in this section. Happily sacrificed slightly bigger jumps on a 11-28 over a 11-25 with 50/34 up front for the extra 6% speed.

Also shows it's impossible to train at real race pace.

I've done 9 Argus' but the last was 10yrs ago before I moved overseas. What are the chances of me getting an entry for the 2018 version? Do they still give priority to previous participants?

No. These dsys you enter a lottery and win an entry. Can always pick one up on the aftermarket though.

If you want to ride there is a 100% chance you will get an entry. If not I will do the Argus on my MTB.

Noob question.

It is my 1st Argus and just like to know if that Racetec Tracking from last year worked and if it will be there again this year. Reason is: my wife wants to track my progress along the route in order to know what time to be at the finish to see me sprint. I'm planning on a Sub 5, and don't want to waste time stopping and pinning my location at every water table (planning to stop at all of them).
