I'm sure they do, but might not know exactly how close to it they might be.

I first encountered Jeannie in 2006 at my first solo 24hr race in Malmesbury. Already then she showed her endurance talents, winning the women's category.

(This rather embarrassing thread still exists: Malmesbury 24hr)

Over the years she has pretty much done and won everything, adventure racing, marathon racing, 24hrs, RASA, Baviaans etc.

Fast forward to 2015 where my partner and I "raced" her and Martin at 36One for the team title. I say raced, because we certainly were racing, but her and Martin were treating it as a romantic weekend away on bikes - no kids, just them spending quality time together in the Klein Karoo. When they finished, they still looked like they could do another lap, while my partner and I could barely move!

Thanks for this perspective, Velo'

Geez

Amazing

I'm also wondering how you apply a time penalty in an event where people have to stop for hours in any case? They will have to add it to his final time.

At this point that must feel like just around the corner for them.

Real time stop but on an IDT?

No idea though.... 30 mins added at the end can actually work as an advantage as your opponent still thinks you're in the race unless there is a penalties notice board at the various stops?

Sounds like that's how it works.

The rules on the Munga website suggest the following:

1. There are 3 race categories, men, women and development. (No mention that I can find of an overall winner).

2. For prize money to be awarded there needs to be at least 3 entries in the category.

3. 1st prize in a category is R40k; second R10k; third R5k.

Maybe these rules were modified and not updated on the website, but if not, then I think it clarifies the R35k rider/woman double-dipping confusion?

For a serious event the website has huge holes in it, and has had before.

go here and it says - http://themunga.com/the-race

The first rider to cross the finish line wins R35 000.

Same for the first woman across the line and same for the first development rider across the line. Equal prize money for the winners across three categories.

now you go to the Rules and it says this

5. Prize money: 5.1. Provided that none of the Rules have been contravened, the rider that wins the Race in their respective category i.e. the first male, female or development rider to cross the finish line shall each receive ZAR40,000 (forty thousand South African Rand) in prize money. 5.2. The rider which is placed second in their respective category shall each receive ZAR10,000 (ten thousand South African Rand). 5.3. The rider that finishes in third place in their respective category shall receive ZAR5,000 (five thousabd South African Rand). 5.4. Only the first overall rider in the race shall receive a free entry into

what a joke, so on the main page it says R35k and in the rules R40k. and the main page still has the story about John Ntuli winning. not even a preview to this years race.

The rules are ambiguous, and let's be honest to not even consider that a female could win line honours is really unfair!

What is Jeannie D's background

Never really heard of her until last year's performance

Is she PRO?

What's in her jungle oats? Who sponsors her?

Any other famous bike riders in her gene pool?

What an ultra-endurance athlete. Respect.

Jeannie D works for top billing, doesn't she?!

Seriously though, she was in my year at school, but only really got into endurance sports at varisty. just rocked up with a boyfriend to cycle rides and started kicking our asses before long. She's dominated in multisport and cleaned up in xterra and totalsports challenge for yonks. For a long time she was our top female AR and having two kids hasn't really slowed her down. she came back from a pregnancy to win Totalsports challenge about 4months later (coming about 4/5th overall). and as it goes, she's humble, modest and totally deserving of every accolade that comes her way.

What does the blue flag saying JN men's record I minute ago mean?

That's where he was on the route this time last year...
