Chris Froome returns adverse analytical finding for Salbutamol

Sorry, no derision intended! Even using blood concentration instead of urine, there are way too many pharmakokinetic variables involved to arrive at a blood content figure at a point in time. Also keep in mind substances cleared by the kidneys, first accumulate in the bladder over a period (which will vary according to person's hydration status) before being passed to the outside world. Concentration of urine (hence concentration of suspicious subtances) will vary greatly depending on one's fluid intake, which makes this urine salbutamol cut-off figure look laughably arbitrary and it should be contestable in Froome's case.

Cool. All good.

I like trying to figure stuff out but engineering is way simpler than biology!

Hey.. Transparency is being out in the open..their statement came 3 months after they were notified..

Zero tolerance in this case would've been....provisionally suspended pending outcome.

As you are such an avid researcher of the interweb and throw out every article that gives suspicion... you would have also read that this is pretty much run of the mill and happens all of the time.

The only reason it has got to where it is is because a couple of papers, Le Monde and the Guardian started jumping on the story... which has obviously required necessary reaction.

As CF was tested in the week running up to the 7 September and in the weeks after without adverse anomaly there is a no reason to doubt zero tolerance being adhered to.

Perhaps the lab tech had a heavy night the night before and did something incorrect with this one test.  Maybe CF metabolism reacted differently on this one occasion..... lets get the facts then decide.

Wonder if you would be so vociferous if it was your beloved Sagan?..... me thinks you would be trawling the interwebs looking for articles in his defense rather than stompies to crucify

I guess the positive from all this is that cycling has got to the point where we are agonizing over which/how much asthma medication.

Athletics is still banning entire countries and trying to work out what the @#**k just happened to their entire lab system in some countries

If Sky confident that the outcome is due to only the drugs administered by their medical team, then zero tolerance would not be provisional suspension surely. (You can argue the rights and wrongs of what was administered by their medical team possibly)

If guys like Jeroen Swart are soft pedaling around the issue and tweeting links to various studies showing variable metabolism of the drugs etc then it is very unlikely to be an open and shut case.

Look this is far from a open and shut case...it is a complicated matter for sure..I haven't condemned him..i have joked and discussed the day of the incident and the day before.

SKY have always gone by being open and transparent etc my point is..they have not been transparent..and I made a comparison between sky and Lotto to highlight what transparency is.

No chance of that - A and B sample tested. ..

I know Gen, Sky have surely stuffed their reputation/PR in a spectacular manner this year, one wonders if management will emerge intact whatever the outcome.

That said, does anyone else get the feeling that the Guardian journalist Sean Ingle really has the knife out for Sky, is there history there?  the tone of the articles seems quite personal.

has anybody read Chris Froome's autobiography? I have, but cannot remember him mentioning in the book at all that he suffered from Asthma.... I would love someone to correct me or if you remember to agree with me on this....

He did not mention it in his book but it was stated a few years ago already that the reason for not mentioning it was to not alert his rivals to a perceived weakness.

Don't assume things of me..I have stated many times over the years that if it was my beloved I would he heavy disappointed but the nature of professional sport nothing would be a surprise.

While we are on ifs... if it was a rider that held a different nationality what would your reaction be?

I have been rather ambivalent about CF, I've neither liked nor disliked him, but after supporting Lance for so many years and dealing with the disappointment that followed. I have been cautious of throwing my weight behind any of these paper heros. This saga has moved him into the dislike category as I apply my new Steinhoff investment strategy " Sell on rumour , buy on fact".

Dear team s(insert inhaler here)y

This is what it is to be transparent with a zero tolerance..even if it isn't banned

I can now see where you get your 1 + 1 = 2000 !!

Trying to justify suspension of a rider or a team not doing the right thing when the 2 are completely different.

In case 1 - Lotto riders suspended for taking drugs not prescribed by the team doctor

Case 2 - Sky rider took drugs prescribed by team doctor

Yet shame on Case 2 for not suspending???

Either your loathing or bias clouds your judgement and rational t!

Of course it will remain intact they survived the Wiggins scandal..which is far worse actually....it will be business as usual.

I wonder if their record keeping has improved.. if not flip they have a serious problem on their hands.

Been following but will wait for findings and explanations to be dealt with rather than join anti Sky/Froome pack and attack. I did similar with Contador and his doping accusations until he came up with his BS about tainted steak as the reason.

Mmmm..... I don't know hey..Ullisi went with all that and the PK test and still received a ban...a precedent was set... there are numours cases to refer to..and they can not treat riders different.

They (UCI) have already shown favour by not releasing a statement after the original test result..

It will drag out for long if he receives a ban it will be backdated and he will serve no real ban but will lose the Vuelta title as well as Bronze in the world's TT.
