back onto topic, I'm guessing yesterday came and went. So this is really looking dire.

Under UCI rule 2.15.069 UCI World Teams must provide documents for audit by 1 October – this Thursday – and if anything is missing there’s until October 20 to file late documents. However the main sponsor and the contract behind it is not an ancillary document, it’s the essential part of a team’s licence. Without this, no licence.

Even if there is a late rescue, I don't see it being an "african themed" one. It would be to essentially buy the licence. So it really is the end of the african journey, for now. Hope de bod, meintjes, dlamini, jjvr and gibbons can get a ride somewhere. Jay thomson is 34, and well....

Eish. This is not good news.

On a sad note worth wondering where Burry Stander might be today. In his day he was u23 World champ and beat the likes of Alexis Vuillermoz a WT rider and TdeF stage winner I think.

Also in 4th that year was a certain Peter Sagan.

Also was competitive against a certain Nino Schurter

A sad sad loss, it was his birthday not long ago. Posted a shoot I'd done with him years back, at Fountains reserve. Laaitjie had just taken delivery of a new BMW 1 series.

Joh he was flipping young then, just won U23 worlds I think and had come on board with a full Specialized ride.

Flipping sad and disappointing, lets see what comes though.

nothing you haven't heard hear before, but did push a bit of the "end of the african dream" plotline.

The tradeoffs in rider contracts and team selections required to get wins have already done that, and the results haven't really come either, BUT I get the thinking that this might have been a well placed "advertorial" to get some local rich guy involved.

If I was stinking rich, I would much rather throw my money at a cycling team than a football team. Of course I'm biased but I think Tinkoff got way more bang for buck than Abromovich (replace your own desired oligarch/rich dude here).

I get the feeling that the window has closed on any new company moving in and doing a deal that is worth it in terms of advertising return/exposure, therefore the smaller support sponsors are also probably looking elsewhere (or happy to be out of it). The roster for 2021 is almost empty already,

CCC has sold their licence to Wanty already so that option is harder, and team mergers are incredibly hard already.

The last viable option is the rich dude, and he will get to rebuild it the way he sees fit. I don't think we'll see this Pretoria laaitie involved

Kevin is probably the best informed sports journalist in Jo'burg and a diehard Liverpool supporter, but for some on the Hub, he has a different, special relevance.

I know, I know. His comments and insights on covid19/lockdown would have been AWESOME

This pretty much sums up the gist of the last few posts here.  Louis is for all intents and purposes one of the best cyclists to to come out of South Africa and he's probably going to struggle to get a team next year.  The fact that he isn't guaranteed of a Team should prove to Mom and Dad that young Billy is most likely never going to make it as a pro.

Have to disagree with you here bud.IMO best road cyclists to come out of SA is a woman and deserves much more recognition than she currently gets.

That's why I said "one of the best" and not "the best"

Continuing on the conversation about Pogacar and John's involvement on Team UAE.

https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/contador-basso-biometrics-and-ducks/id665713706?i=1000493385549

In this episode of Service Course Tom and Lizzy react to EF Pro-Cycling's new kit for the Giro, speak with Alberto Contador and Ivan Basso about the Aurum Magma, the first bike to be produced by their new brand, and chat with Absolute Black's Borut Fonda about his lab work with Tadej Pogačar.

So, while Lizzy Banks likes oval rings, she disagrees with Borut's "testing" of 7 cyclists that cycle 3000-10000 Km per annum. However, he (Borut) says he has been working with Pogacar since the beginning of the year to get his TT setup perfect. Seems they did a number of tests using pedals to determine optimal power at various points on his pedal stroke.

For those that have noticed, has Pogacar been riding with oval rings (on the TT bike), and perhaps we could get some more "inside info" from JW.

I have oval on my MTB, not by choice but it came on the bike (second hand) and I can't tell the difference between round and oval.
