[Event] Coronation Double Century 2018

The other obvious point is that you don't HAVE to spend 30 minutes in the feeding zone, you can ride through and have your 200km race.

We can hate the golfers all we want, but my gut feel is that if the event didn't grow to it's current size with these okes partaking it would probably dead by now. Must be massive costs & effort involved to stage this type of race.

it will be like that for a few events.

Yep..

And then Nibali wouldn't be wow-ing everyone..

So jealous

I was descending Tradouws pass at 70km/h and on the brakes waiting for my team mates, Nibali came next to me then smiled and gave me a thumbs up, So in other words he was going close to 80km/h downhill around a slight bend with 1 hand on the bars... Such a cool guy though, Posed for a number of selfies whilst riding.

It’s the same event for everyone taking part. It’s gets quicker don’t think it get easier. Okes just ride harder and rest between the stops.

I take back what I replied to Malcom.

There does seem to be some extra crashes this year. Like this strange one, don’t remember there being a rock garden or train track there!

Could have been from a slipped chain while changing gears for the climb.

I do not get this “when will it be a 200km race again? The rules are the same for all teams. You do not get into a car in the Neutral Zones.

290 teams makes this race possible for the sharp end of the field.

We had one rider back after many absent years. He had the same opinion of this not being a “real” race anymore. And although our team didn’t go at the pace he can, he had such a blast with his friends, he already signed up for next year.

New golf or not, 5,6,7,8 hours with your friends over magnificent terrain and vistas can never be lame!

This was like 100m from the finish. I were a few meters behind them (orange Absolute Motion kit - 6 of us   ) and really do not know how he crashed  and then his team mate stopped in the middle of the road and we had to dodge him also.

How did Team Velouria do ?

Sorry for the late reply - I'm away on a business thing which is cutting into out race report writing time [emoji33]

We had a good ride, and I'm quite sure in previous years it would have been good enough for a win. Somewhere out there we lost 66 seconds (looking back at the splits, we were up by about a minute leaving the last stop).

But that's bike racing. Not bad for a bunch of guys and (amazing) girls who had never ridden together before. Which is EXACTLY why I love this race so much - complete strangers coming together for one day and doing something special. And having fun.

What an awesome event, and well done to everybody. Especially the 11 other strangers that made up Cape Cycle Tours.

Race report to follow soon.c46f4fa85dd5c39c3023748ed428f90b.jpg103e4ff16afefd49dee4748b9d5ed359.jpg0478e724608f16f09ec4ac6151e481e2.jpg

Uncle Velo is going to be bummed - they were wanting the win.

But then again, he will also be humble in settling for anything on a podium.

Well done to the winners, and to all my teammates, but second still sucks. Being the first losers is pretty ***, especially when we had such a great day out there.

But, just to put it into perspective - we had a guy in our team who had been trying for four years to crack a podium, and he finally did it. Seeing his joy and happiness made it all worth it. It wasn't first, but it is still quite an amazing achievement.

And hopefully a motivator to try a little harder next year!

We might make you Team Captain of the hub team, whose goal it will be to come last and have the most fun. That WILL be a looooooonnngggg day out for you !

But nice one Velo.

I still maintain that riding slowly is WAAAAAY harder than riding fast. And I'm quite sure I'll suffer from a sense of humor failure long before the finish line

Looking at some of these pictures.... Do they really make you attached those stupid mountain bike style number boards to your handle bars in this race?? Idiotic.

Yeah its meant for photos and if you and your bike get separated. Worked rather well with the 2 crashses I saw, the sweeper rocked up and off and away, then the JOC can just call the rider and be like, your bike is here. You can cut them to make them aero.
