Has the MTB Stage Racing bubble finally burst?

If I can persuade my wife to agree to prioritise the bucks, I will happily pay an entry for berg and bush or s2C again next year, as well as flights to SA etc etc.

South Africans are incredibly blessed with the options that are available locally. What a privilege to be able to pick and choose.

Fully agree with this - ALL these races are just fantastic, and if I had the tom and the time, I would do all of them every year.  We are so lucky to have such a vibrant MTB racing calendar.  Sure, races will come and go, but it seems that stage race culture is firmly entrenched in SA, and long may that last.

Think of the poor roadies - they get an Argus and a 94.7, and what else?

No wonder they are so grumpy!

[PS jaysus wahoofish - that profile pic is horrible!!]

Some perspective, chatting to a mate who is a 'baiker boet' he confirmed some points made by one of the lead motor bikers from Epic (who was a top MTBr in the day) about the Dakar Rally, which is an ASO event.

1 bar for a bog basic privateer entry covering the basics, that includes a metre by metre odd crate and drum for spares, wheels etc. Spares which you are responsible for during the event, including any wrenching.
Considering that after a twenty hour stage sometimes, riders sleep next to their bike in full bike gear so that they can get some time in.

1 bar .... vokit!

Is that R100k or R1m? I'm not from Joburg so don't use this lingo all the time

I reckon there is now better value to be had in other spheres...like a honeymoon :-)

We booked a proper "eat your heart out mofos" style 5 star african experience honeymoon for a fraction of the cost of a stage race.

Ja, the entry fee for a stage race may be a bit higher, but even at the Epic the cost to substitute your partner does not require you to cough up half your earthly possessions..;-)

Given the banter/chit chat/response I'm getting to my honeymoon statement you guys all married the wrong women!

I thought the reason for getting married was so that you could have all the canyon you wanted.

Canyon

If you need a safety harness to get jiggy with your missus, then I'm guessing she didn't do a great job saving herself for marriage :whistling:

Edit : on second thoughts, rather not post.

Check out the prices of Ride2nowhere. That's belaglik.

Used to be one of the cheaper stage races around.. Confirms my little theory though, if you are thinking about doing a new race on the calendar get in while it is still cheap.
