I've seen them do it here - but it's very expensive because of the small number of clients you can fit in a heli alongside the pilot and a Guide!

Friends that own an AS350 wanted to start a heli cycling setup in CT but insurance was ridiculous which made it not viable

Guys were doing it with a squirrel in the central Drakensberg based out of Dragon Peaks, the week we wanted to go the chopper was off for a service  :(   and haven't managed to get back.

I can imagine.

Back in 2009 I went up to the 19th hole at Legends. Its a heli trip up, Tee off, then heli trip down. I seem to recall a figure of around R6500 for a 4 ball to play just that one hole.

Heard about that

Did you actually play the hole?

Is it a par 3 and how difficult is to play

That's a Bell 206 L1 Long Ranger, reg ZS-RGW. Been around the block that machine, my flight school used to operate in in CT about 10 years back.

A Long Ranger, especially the L1 is not a machine for the mountains and altitude with any load (an L4 version is another animal) Squirrel is designed for that kind of work and will actually carry 4 bikes, pax and gear.

“The DPE wishes to put it on record that the 600 SAA pilots make up 13 percent of SAA staff, and yet they consume 45 percent of the wage bill. The lowest of SAA’s 170 senior pilots earns R3.6-million a year, excluding perks and incentives.

Didn't know they earned that much.

That's the lowest. The highest earns about R6 million per year. R500k a month, just let that sink in..............

My TCE is not much more than that for a whole year and as far as Technicians go I am pretty high up the food chain.

Techies have always gotton the short end of the stick, no matter what the industry is. That is primarily why I moved from being a mainframe techie to being a developer in 1990. Never looked back, although I love techie work.

For Info, The Business Rescue Plan was eventually voted for today after being delayed and rejected a few times. 86% of the creditors voted yes. SAA lives to fly another day. Good news in terms of my job.

I am really happy for you.  I would like to see what the BR plan is wrt to the top structure.
