I can confirm that all the planes here at SAAT are still in preserved condition. I will keep you updated but I don't see us getting any of them ready to fly this week.

Their ADS-B transponders must be activated when they turn them on for maintenance - often see the likes of the A350 ZS-SDD pop up and then disappear on flightradar24

Most of the aircraft are getting turned on once a week. We also move them around just so the tyres don't get flat spots and bearings rotate.

Seems like SAA is positioning themselves to resume some kind of operations next month or at the earliest opportunity.

https://businesstech.co.za/news/business/401975/saa-prepares-for-take-off-again/

South African Airways (SAA) plans to restart domestic flights as soon as it is given official approval by the government.

The airline said that it plans to retain its domestic schedule of flights between Johannesburg and Cape Town with effect from mid-June 2020. Accordingly, the group said it is focusing on ensuring operational readiness to resume flights once permissible.

This position will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, it said.

At the same time, SAA said it is cancelling all planned scheduled flights on regional and international services until the end of June 2020 with immediate effect.

This decision has been taken as a result of the continuing global impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the airline said.

Many restrictive rules and regulations still apply to civil aviation across the world. On this basis, it is not yet possible to resume operations beyond South Africa’s borders in a sustainable manner, it said.

“Everyone at SAA is looking forward to welcoming and serving our customers once again.

‘Our operational preparedness is underlined by the significant role the airline has played in global repatriations to and from South Africa and by our desire to serve the domestic market,” said Philip Saunders, SAA’s chief commercial officer.

The airline said all customers will be able to use their ticket’s full value as a credit for travel on any SAA service up to an including 24 March 2022.

The airline will also permit a free name change if any individual customer no longer wishes to travel. This represents an important part of SAA’s continued commitment to support our customers in these unprecedented times.

BUT she is not arrested yet!

I bet she is not smoking

I bet she has a stash of Dunhill's for a time such as this. I am reckoning that the NPA will now have to investigate her, and if the whole Zuma saga has taught us anything, it is that Dudu is about to find herself as a convenient scapegoat. Jacob and the Gupta's remain on free-foot, but to appease the bloodlust of the nation, someone is going to cop the fall. I am thinking it may end up being her.

SpaceX luanch live webcast ...............

It was pretty cool, my one youngster insisted we stop in the middle of our movie to watch the launch. It looked so easy and smooth, certainly less trouble than the Cape Town Traffic.

I've always had a "thing" for the bent wing birds (Corsair, F4 Phantom, etc) and these guys are rebuilding a JU87. Check it out - it's a great channel.

I have been following the Dragon Demo 2 fight from launch and Bob and Doug are moments away from entering the ISS. This is a welcome distraction from the Covid-19 circus. As much as I am not a fan of Elon Musk I will admit that SpaceX pulled of a magnificent feat that is history in the making. Well done to everyone.

Strangest advert I've seen on the Hub for a while? Are they selling containers?

I am sitting at my desk trying to finally get some work done now that my 2 y.o. is finally taking her nap when I hear a faint, deep rumbling getting louder and coming closer. What is that? it sounds so familiar, but I am struggling to place it. It's louder still, and there is a whine to it that sounds so satisfying on the ear. I go outside to see if the neighbour is attacking the lawn again with his weed-eater. No, it's not that. Sound is way too deep and earth shaking. The noise begins to crash over me, and I swear it sounds like the roof is rattling.

Enter stage right, a beautiful sight to behold...

Her Majesty, the Queen of the Skies makes her appearance bathed in glorious sunlight as she slowly and elegantly makes her way smoothly across the sky, in a slow yet graceful northern climb, heading to Heathrow.

What a privilege and joy to see a B747-400 from British Airways make an unsuspecting house call. How long this will still happen is anyone's guess, but for me, every time I see a 747 is a moment to stop and admire man's ingenuity and ability to put something so massive and graceful in the sky, and keep it there.

I remember when we lived in Weltevreden Park, one night at about 10.30 something flew over us loud, slow and low. All I managed to see were the strobes as it trundled into the distance, heading north. Didn't show up on Flightradar either.
