A google search on the Washington monument makes me think you are dead right on the scale of the projection. The museum at KSC where they have one lying down is awe-inspiring and humbling at the same time. Imagine yourself being strapped into the little compartment at the pointy end when someone kicks the tyres and lights the fires.

They have the capsule shuttleworth used for re entry at the science centre in Obs, CT.

When my daughter looked into that, she changed her mind about becoming an astronaut. She now wants to be a scientist and blow stuff up like they do on TV.

What I thought about last night when they showed the blast off of Apollo 11 was how the rockets etc were disconnected and left to ????? crash???? and our local boy Elon is now making them come back and land again. I can't wait till he puts someone on another planet.

More than 60 Australian-made planes grounded after fatal crash in Sweden

Sounds like a wing came of in flight.

Plane was used for dropping parachutists

Emergency EASA Airworthiness Directive 2019-0177-E states:

"On 14 July 2019, a fatal accident occurred with a GA8 ‘Airvan’ aeroplane, during a flight where the purpose was to drop parachutists. Indications are that the aeroplane, at 4 000 meters altitude, suffered structural failure. Early reports are that a wing may have detached from the aeroplane prior to the accident, but, at this time, the root cause of the accident cannot be confirmed"

Without pointing fingers.... sometimes these paradrop aircraft are worked hard, as in performing repititve manoeuvres they were not designed to.

Am I the only one who think how ironic it is that a plane full of paraschutists crashed and none of them could jump to safety.

I

was thinking the same thing.  It wasn't that long ago where there were two planes which collided mid air and the wing came off and everyone parachuted to safety.  Wonder why not this time.

If a wing came off it would have started spinning. I suppose that centrifugal force may have prevented them from getting to a door in time.

Yes it will be spinning and tumbling, people inside are going to be facing all sorts of forces that would limit their actions, and it will be over quite quick. Terrifying!

Last night M-net had First man on. I usually don't watch the movies and rather just record and watch later. Started watching and that was it, the wife and I watched till the end. Wow but Neil Armstrong had a tough life. He got so engrossed in it that nothing(and I mean nothing, not even his family) came before the mission. The amount of friends he lost as a result of testing was crazy. But I think after his daughters death, no other death really made much impact on him. He came across a bit heartless to me. The scene when his wife forced him to say good bye to his kids and how they handled it was sad. The fact that their death note to the world had been written before they left showed how little faith they had in making it. As far as a movie though, it was not very good. It just ended and a lot was left unanswered.

It was apparently a thing with the astronauts and they often talked about it before their missions. This was the fact that they were being blasted off into space on top of a rocket made and assembled by the lowest bidders

Horrible accident. The g forces on the folk inside must have been unbelievable, probable to the point of blacking out.

Having operated the Airvan for a while I think it's a solid aircraft. Basic in terms of design but very much a decent machine and serves its purpose well.

Tis really horrible, but if indeed the wing seperated then the resulting spin would give no one a chance to escape. Terrible if it did happen at 4000m, over 12000ft altitude. Would take a chunk of time to hit the ground..........nasty.

Recently a survey C210 had a wing separation in Oz with the loss of the crew members. This at low level.

Must be so aweful to be so helpless as the pilot.
