So let's see what happens at the Tiletoria Oakvalley event event today ....

Event is "sold as" that ebikes are to start LAST ....

Easy to sit here and pass judgement .....

I take my hat off to the organisers that are TRYING to find that magic formula that will take our sport to the next level

Just imagine that perfect day when the "racing snakes" can taste the blood in their throats as they race to harts content, clean track, no interference, etc ....  Where the fun riders has a nice safe day out in nature .... and where the next generation of ebikers can also join in the fun, without impacting on the race results or safety of others ....

But he does have long socks...

A golfer on an eBike, a thermo nuclear reaction of douchery is about to happen! I would also cover my face in shame.

Even has white tyre decals like those BF Goodrich ones the guys like putting on their Wildtraks

I have a can of worms (crying out) to be opened, but I'll take the advise my mother once told me... if I don't have anything good to say about someone, rather keep quiet... that someone is (1) CyclingSA, and (2) their consistency in enforcing the rules.  :whistling:

I've yet to see them measure sock length!

Cheating are cheating !!!

Exactly. Everyone is missing the real issue here. And that's because e-bikes are obnoxious. Why do they all have to look like a boomslang that just ate a dassie? And where did Femke get one that looks like a normal bike? If they all looked like regular bikes. Nobody would know. Ergo. Nobody would be so salty about them. I need my cheating to be private. As soon as they look like normal bikes I'm getting one.

I think the point everyone is missing is how those of us who detest cheating are also so empathetic to the physical frailties of those who need eBikes to have fun, and who are forced to spend large amounts of money to overcome the physical and mental disabilities. I wonder how long before eBikes will be the next Discovery options category after obstetrics, physiother and homoeopathy.

I think too many of us focus on the aggressive defense of right and wrong and don't focus on the really, really important topic of rich boys' pain.

So please, guys, spread a little love. It's not the size, shape or looks that count. It's not how fast they go. It's that they are trying, whether on eBikes or not.

I'm going to leave this year as evidence of why compassion is necessary:

To be honest, if I get a e-bike today it will be one of the greatest things ever for me.

I am limited by what my heart can do and I can’t push to hard or I will die (not my words but the words of the doctor and the medicine I am on)

I would like to ride many places, but I just can’t.

Will I use the bike to race? Hell no! I don’t even do races with my normal bike because I hate races and their seeding systems.

The last race I took part in (we are talking 3 or 4 years ago when I was a little bit fit) I started in the last bunch. I ended up catching some of the C Bunch people. And when things started with a little incline in the road, the whole field had to stop, get off and walk because they did not know how to use gears, and were just not fit enough for the smallest hill in the road and a severe lack of any MTB skills.

Maybe one day I will try a race again on the DS bike just for fun and i. The last batch of the race again.

From the Cycle Challenge website:

  1. The definition which distinguishes E-bikes permitted to enter the 94.7km race are as follows:
    1. when the motor produces maximum continuous rated power of not more than 250 watts
    2. the pedal-assist, i.e. the motorised assistance that only engages when the rider is pedalling, cuts out once 25 km/h is reached (ie no permanently powered bicycles), AND

I would suggest setting a maximum weight for the E-bike's batteries (including all spares and swops used in the race). After 97km of e-bike racing the batteries will be flat. The rider with the most battery capacity on board at the start has the biggest advantage. It would be quite easy for the officials to weigh batteries either before or after the race. (Unlike testing the electronics governing max speed and max power).

Modern e-bikes are all likely to have similar chemistry and if "exotics" appear then rules for battery types could be introduced too.
