Starting in Batch 2E at 6:18am. Hope the weather plays its part.

Same for me, hoping we get some kind of half decent group.

EDIT - and I only say half decent because I can't keep up with fully decent

the groups ALL split up hells and most of time the big boys catch the skinny guys about 30km further.

i just normally go full balls up hells (i truly suck on hills) and rest till T junction (all downhill) then help out till we catch rest of bunches then try recover and conserve energy for last three climbs.

MMMH I'm not racing smart coz I'm dumb and inexperienced, but from what I've learned at Sportive#7 I don't want to be the guy always at the front trying to pull the group to catch up with every breakaway cause it really killed me for the last 30km when it was hilly with a headwind. I was more planning on trying to stay mid group, let the breakaways go and hope for the group effect to work in the second half where the wind will be the worst to catch all the early brave guys :D

sportiff groups are small(40-50) , sct they 100-150 before merging.    Try stay at front (10-25th wheel), the surging mid/back of pack gonna kill you.

can i get a friend to collect my number?

edit. Cancel that.

Yes, ensure that your friend has a copy of your confirmation email (with race# and start time)

Won't hurt to also forward them the SMS.

This race is normally great for me. My seeding is always lousy because its my first event in 9 months, but I'm always fit at this time of year because I've ridden plenty over the holidays. Combine that with the fact that the only thing I'm half decent is climbing, it means I can normally jump one or two groups on the way over Helshoogte, and then coast for the next 90kms. That's how its played out for the two years before last.

And this year its all going according to the same playbook, except that I have a wedding on Saturday night in Cape Town. And its not a "Polite hug at 11pm and thank you we had a lovely time" kind of wedding. It's an "old varsity friends who now only see each other every few years and think they can still play drinking games" kind of wedding.

FML.

Usually in my experience the larger the group the less surging, then it is usually safe & uneventful at the back (excluding the climbs)

Wonder if Pure Savage will be starting again in the middle of the field somewhere disrupting everybody in front of them
