Average deaths at my wife's hospital has stood steady at around 30 per month for a good couple of years. They are now at 90 in April, 100 in May. PS, this is just a general comment. I'm not arguing the mask / no mask thing. I'm too scared to state my position on this forum for fear of being dragged into a handbag slinging war. I am still active, will stay that way - but I have considered just leaving the forums a few times. The mix of soap box warriors, ignorant bokse, and trolls is mildly entertaining at the best of times, and just ridiculous most of the time. I think BikeHub should get back to being about bikes. I doubt anyone hear stands in that position. I also don't see "80%" of cyclists being flippant with health risks. As I said before and I'll say it again I see far more people complying than not. Sure there are people completely ignoring the mask requirement as in they don't even have one their person. This group includes runners, walkers, local tourists, security guards, police, labourers and yes cyclists. Am I going to change their behaviour? Noto go up to them and have a conversation requires that I must break my primary defense against this virus, social distancing. I also run the risk of the individual escalating the situation into a confrontation as Mamil has done here.These people are all adults and they can make choices for themselves. The best I can do for myself is avoid them and rant and rave using foul language on an Internet forum and then applying the dictatorial approach of either with me or against me. The science around aerosol transmission in open spaces doesn't exist no matter how Mamil and Co try to spin it. In high risk environments I see 100% compliance. I'm pretty sure everyone in this chat is too The choice I have is how do I control my risk? I'm pretty sure everyone asks themselves the same question and acts accordingly. Except the denialists, those who believe there isn't a virus and its just a 5G hoax. This thread isn't going to change them... I presented the only existing example of a paper where an attempt was made to apply statistics to anecdotal evidence supporting the use of masks within confined spaces within the health care system as well as within the community. You have chosen to associate the term "within the community" as representing all activity within the community where the papers that are referenced by thelancet.com published paper only refer to confined spaces such as community halls, sports centres,shops, office buildings. I have also stated that those papers do not reference sporting activities taking place outdoors and you chose to ignore that while the whole debate in this thread relates to cycling outdoors (with the joggers dragged in as collateral damage) There is no point in engaging with you further as you refuse to look at the information provided objectively. That is called confirmation bias whereby you only consider the arguments that support your point of view and tailor the facts to support that. One day you may be right but at this point there is no scientific evidence to support 100% time based compliance of mask wearing when engaging in outdoor sporting activity, e.g training. I am 100%comfortable with my own level of compliance and sleep well at night.So when you're willing to review the reference documents objectively and are willing to engage in open constructive debate I'll engage further.
