Hi there

The bike shop recommended I service my frame as its a bit creaky. It doesn't creak when I ride it but besides that what exactly does this entail? I tried to google it and nothing comes up. I cant say I have ever heard of this before and before I ask and get given some fancy story as to why I should get it done can anyone here shed some more info on the topic and is it worthwhile doing?

I presume it is a mountain bike frame in which case it is probably to replace the linkage bearings if it is a full suspension  frame.

If it's a hardtail, get a new bikeshop. It it is a full suspension bike they may mean a pivot service. The pivots are a servicable part of a full suspension bike and worth looking after.

It might be that the bearings need servicing if it is a full suspension frame. If it is a hardtail, then it sounds like a long story.

Alternatively it might be that they want to service the headset or bottom bracket bearings (they sit in the frame.) but it may just be that they are speaking porky pies.

Even if it is a full suspension mtb, still get another mechanic. If they call a "pivot / linkage" service a "frame service", goodness knows what other nonsense they'll come up with. Saddle service next?

Assuming you are female (Cath?), it may also be a case of the bike shop assuming you wont understand things like pivot, bb, headset, etc, so jut made a broad statement of 'frame service' to make it understandable...if this is the case, get a new lbs who takes the time to explain what needs to be done.

Without much more info to go buy, a creaky frame is usually as a result of grit in the BB housing that needs cleaning.

Would not call that a frame service. I suggest you find a new shop

I service my HT frame, clean and re-lube headset(and sometimes remove bb clean and new carbon paste) clean and lube axles, all contact points seatpost, seat clamp , stem and bar clean little bit carbon paste or lube and it does take creaking away if there is. Not sure I will pay someone to do it and I find it therapeutic. I get so irritated with creaks, noise bike not working 110%.

And doesn't treat you like a complete ignoramus
