Chased with a cattle prod

Rode with friends from Kyalami to Bidon. Been riding through this section for years. No house on the land, no farming activities or animals, no fence and no signage stating it’s private land. Gentleman standing next to his double cab tries to stop me and i ride around him. Then he chases me with this moerse long skok stok. I stop and ask him wtf?! He says it’s his land and we are not allowed there. No proof that he’s in fact the land owner or any indication that it’s private land, anyone could have stopped there and claim it’s their land...Odd way of protecting his land (most probably is his land). Rode back and around as advised by him, to keep the peace we did so and rode past him again on the little gravel road 1 meter from where he tried to poke me just to go under (tunnel) the N14 highway to get to the other side towards Bidon. Crime plays a huge part with land owners starting to protect/fence off/wall off/securing their land.

Regardless of crime being an issue does he really think middle aged men on bicycles are coming to rob or murder or steal stock?

I hear you, but if a commercial/rural property is left unoccupied and open to the public he does not have the right to assault a trespasser on sight.

You have the right to protect your person too and protecting your life trumps him protecting his dirt road from 2 more tyre tracks.

Did you read my post carefully and slowly? How do you know it’s his land? All i saw was him standing there and me ride around him.I will spell it out to you again. Why try stun me if i did not pose any threat or had any weapons, just lycra and a bicycle? Only when he chased me and when i stopped and confronted him i was informed (any Tom, Dick and Harry could’ve stood there in the middle of nowhere and claim it’s their land). No signage, no fence, nada, nothing there, just jeep and single track. Think about it a bit before just making accusations. There’s plenty empty areas that belong to land owners, you can’t go and chase them cyclists or pedestrians frequenting the trails down with some kind of weapon all of sudden without them knowing it’s private land? How do you figure that out?

I think it has to be fenced and gated especially if it has been used as a thoroughfare for some time.

Uni's statement is true, isn't it? If someone trespasses on your property, you have the right to do something about it. No mention was made either agreeing or disagreeing with you on HOW he was doing so.

 

How he was doing it, I think everyone here would agree its not the right way. Fences, signs; if that doesn't work, security/law enforcement. Not chasing people with shock sticks.

Jip ... this comes often when farms are sold, new owners often dont realise how many routes pass through their land, which they may not close off

Nor can you deny the public passage without spending some tokens at the very least at a magistrate to authorise you to close the throughfare.

 

And if you really want to fight it wait outside for a couple of community members to show up and get them on board to protest the closure of the safe passage.

 

it is 2020 you need to know how to manipulate popular narratives to get your way.  Like:
