Bit concerned about it all. 50km/h gusts. With possible rain. Some people wearing spectacles. Some on bikes with disc brakes and some with rim brakes.  Lots of novices and lots of people in packs. Lots of crashes.... (?) Maybe better to just stay home.

Or just keep away from them and ride alone ... Wouldn't be unusual for me ????

are people ok with the amount of pavement riding on the course?

I sat this year out, but from the pics i've seen it looked like a road/gravel race.

I'm really surprised SC have not sorted the sewerage issue out, and even more surprised they allowed the route anywhere near it - even a small droplet of contaminated water flicking up into your eye, nose or mouth can get you seriously sick. But its been there since the beginning of this race at SC.

I really think they taken one of the better MTB races for the year in JHB and dumned it down and gone cazy with the entry fee.

When Men where Men and sheep were scared the MTB race was the Sat before the Sun road race and you were part of a special club if you did both.

Moving to SC was good in the beginning and a real challenging route, especially that last climb up the south fence line and then up again to the finish, and of course who doesn't enjoy the NF trails.

Seeing the route now, all squeezed into SC basically riding along their manicured trails for the residents is mmmmm bleh ! Nah ! doubt i be back - would rather spend a 50 ronds at modders and smash a coffee and brekkie at Flamingo shopping ctr  afterwards

I was gifted a double entry by someone who dropped out due to injury and hadn`t ridden a 94.7 MTB since the good old back to back days and a particularly irritating race with massive traffic jams around Leeukop as far as i recal,l which pretty much took the event off my calendar till now. I thought the course wasn`t bad given the constraints and apart from 1 longish traffic jam along the river I really enjoyed it, organization seemed fine too and all went smoothly.  The entry fee is steep and I`m not sure i would have bought a ticket with my own diminished wallet but having said that i wouldn`t feel cheated if i had, I`m rather looking forward to Sunday`s road race, now that i`ve done my training ride :).

Windy is no longer predicting rain. Let’s see how it changes in the next few days.

Thankfully, it seems the low temperatures are still in the prediction. That in itself would be great compared to the years when it was 32°C at 9AM in the Start shoots...

Has anyone received a mail with a QR code after registering for number collection? I received a mail saying tx you have booked - but NO QR code.... yet

Got an email confirming my booking and an SMS with the QR code. You have to book before getting the QR code.

Yeah, have the confirmation of booking but nothing after that. I see chaos arriving when we simply rock up at the time we booked, regardless of no sms or email. The hole system seems a bit retarded in my opinion.

There is no doubt chaos is brewing. I have booked a slot but that is it. No SMS or QR code received. We also have a driver going to collect on Thursday for about 4 of us. Most of the slots are already filled so our times do not even align. It is 80km away from me - so no easy driving for us. The whole concept of number collection in this digital era should seriously be revisited.

When did you book? I just checked my confirmation mail, I booked Thursday last week, and still no nothing.
