There is an opportunity here that CSA and all other "major" cycling events should grab hold of. Permanent number boards for Road Cycling.

The MTB crowd have it, why can't we.

The dream................To have a permanent board, chip included, and they just activate it when you enter a race or DQ you for 5 races if you ride without payment.
No more 160km drive in traffic to get a piece of useless paper.

I'd pay good money for that service.

For interest sake how many of you are doing this race on a Mountain Bike? I borrowed a road bike but due to the predicted rain conditions and lack of confidence in those crappy rim brakes, I have decided to revert to trusty Norco Revolver.

I....

Last time I did it on a MTB it took me 4h10 in 2015. All 947's since have been on the Road Bike. Might be a rude awakening but looking forward to it. Might also be the first 947 I start with Leg and Armwarmers...pending the weather

Although not riding, still went to collect my number (after all I did pay for  it).

Collection was a breeze. In and out within 10 mins.

Expo is not even worth a visit as others have mentioned. Only decent stall is the coffee station which funny enough was the only stall that had people waiting at it.

Go for it. The amount of different bikes at the event is rather cool. I want to do it on a BMX one day. Just need to work on my quads and back to be able to stand on the pedals 100% of the distance ????

I'm doing the race on a single speed. 46/17

All the best. Think you're going to have a lot of fun for the first 15k or so. Which batch are you starting?

My BIL and I are doing it on MTBs. Pumping tires to 3bar and locking out all suspension. I've got Bontrager XR1 front and rear, should be fast rolling. Gears are 36T front and 10-52 at the back. Should be fun...

It's not a chip in the traditional sense. It's more a board with a chip inside. 2 little black zip ties, you secure it to you seat post so that the board is perpendicular (90 degrees) relative to the seat post, so the board is horizontal.

Just to make double sure - I should therefore NOT wear my traditional RaceTec chip that I have always used in races?

That's correct. Leave your yellow/orange RaceTec chip at home.
