The cancel culture is the outcry to two brats being disciplined.

20 years ago when a dog barked you went out side to check why....

In 2022 when a dog barks your neighbour phones the cops to come and fetch the dog while the reason the dog was barking is walking down the road ith the other neighbours camera, laptop and iphone.

The neighbours berate the dog owner for not having control of the dog, the cops for not catching the thief and protest the conditions the dog is kept under at the SPCA while its owner tries to sort out the issue (And probably getting robbed at the same time)

Human Beings are their own worst enemy.

Gen X was probably the last generation to grow up with their immediate community taking an interest in how you were raised. Your neighbour would set you straight not call the cops. Discipline was handed out there and then and in mostly metered fashion. Yes some people would go overboard. There was and always will be broken people.

But in today's society where if the teacher doesn't tell the parent how good and sweet that naughty little twat, Johny, is the school gets sued. Millenials were the start but its the Gen Z were we have  a real problem. All this gender neutrality , identify as a satellite K*K is going to take us back to before the bronze age. They're the fools buying into green washing and woke movements. Those are the knobs we should cancel

I agreed with you up until this point.

Gender neutrality doesn't impact discipline or how kids are raised and 'going green' also doesn't impact on how kids are raised or disciplined.

IMHO By randomly bringing these unrelated subjects into the picture you're also highlighting how judgemental the older generations are and how blameless they see themselves.

What will inherently take us back to the bronze age is the inability for society to give up it's luxuries and advancement in favour of sustainability, not how people identify with themselves.

The industry behind this is mostly being driven by old men from 'the good' generations

I'll get into this point later. It speaks to the erosion of good science to inform reason and logic. This is increasingly being replaced by "feelings" as the control mechanism for how we legislate and regulate.

e.g. I feel I am this therefore you cannot tell me I am not b#gger science and biology

I feel this will hurt XYZ therefore you cannot do this b#gger the science

somehow we think total freedom to express  is a good thing when it suits a narrative.

Some people can express their passions and feeling at will while others must keep it under control. It ll depends what part of the woke movement you with or against. That's all BS

mmm. If you think the earth is flat, then I support your right to think that, but it doesn't mean I agree. If you believe in a different science, then I support your right to do so.

There has to be an overlap, with acceptance, patience and empathy. It's not 'my way or the highway'

Rodney King said it best when he said 'can't we all just get along?'. from the looks of things, we cannot. And THAT'S why we're doomed. But it's been like that since we crawled out the oceans, so there's that

It's the same as religion then.

How come that is acceptable if science exists?

The older we get, the less we like to accept change. There has to be tolerance and I firmly believe that these things are nowhere near as impactful on the world as the old men pulling the strings and driving economy, industry and war.

Science is also easily manipulated. If you extrapolate enough data from enough of a base you can suit your narrative.

Anyway, these kids were dumb, MvdP was dumb.

Situation was handled badly by all involved.

The end

What a boring dystopia we live in.
Is it a right of passage to complain about the new generation that we all must go through? Do I have to wait for Alphas to go to high school before I can start? Every generation has been doing it since the industrial revolution... How tiring.

Thinking the earth is flat isn't science, its a feeling or belief despite facts. The idea des not even warrant consideration any longer except around the braai fire when trying to stir up an argument. If someone wants to belief it then fine, just don't teach it in school. There is a level of tolerance required but not too much or stupid ideas gain traction. This is quite a lot of overlap already. Most people exhibit this tolerance, also known as reasonable people. There are extremists both sides

oh sure, but remember, doctors claimed that that smoking was good for you and the Romans used to drink mercury to help digestion. point being that people believe what they want to, and for every bit of science that I believe, I can find a something that contradicts it.

Lighter reply ....

Over the last few years my riding distances increased, and my need to improve my recovery time became more pertinent.

And thus I read a LOT of the nutritien threads on the Hub ...

Reading up quickly turned into a marketing session where the one would contradict the other ....

I eventually had a session with a dietitian that specialise in nutrition for sports, and a sub-speciality about this impacts diabetics.

It was eye opening ......

You Don't Say? | Know Your Meme

Jokes aside (I believe this to be close to your heart Chris), when the human factor is thrown into the mix all bets are off, and when there's money....

I've seen you walk this journey here on the Hub and there are so many axes out there to be ground and most are based on personal belief/experience that might not align with yours/mine, which makes it tough to navigate.

Kudos for walking your straight path

Medicine is not exactly pure science.

well, with each new discovery, science changes. So, while it IS pure, it's only pure when we find sh!t out. and it's while sh!t's getting sorted, I need to keep an open mind about it all and be inquisitive and accepting. And by accepting, I mean accepting that others believe different things and that's not my business

I get that I may be coming across as an anti-vaxxing flat-earther. far from it. - my truth is my truth. it has nothing to do with anyone else, and what you believe has nothing to do with me, and news flash Trev, your truth may be wrong, so deal with it sunshine. (btw, Trev is me, but feel free to insert your own name)

I Would not call what the Romans did as "Medicine".... more alchemy and witch craft. However at the time they had good reason to follow the practices they did. there is a big difference between ethylmercury and methylmercury. the former does not accumulate in the body and is still used in preparation (as preservative) of vaccines (oh shock horror covid vaccine conspiracists were right!).

the rest well no...
