I got an Elite Direto from chainreactioncycles, that will have a landed cost here of ~R8.5k. Typically costs more than double that, and even on special I could only see it at R13.5k.

Oh, and just got delivered in 5 days (including the weekend). Blows my mind that this is possible.

My black Friday deal with my VPN provider expires in the odd years (2019, 2021, 2023, etc), so I'll renew next year this time, like I do every 24 months. If Disney+ has a special, then I'll sign up, otherwise keep paying monthly.

Black Friday happens on the 15th of every month (D-Day miles), so I've already used miles for what I needed this month.

Awesome - is that standard shipment or priority tracked?

Some really great deals on there!

Anyone ever order a complete bike from chainreaction?

From what I can understand the tax on a bike is different from the tax on parts - so would you want the bike and wheels to be delivered separately?

It's ALL a scam.... Buying stuff you probably don't need because it's on special.

It isn't even part of our local culture.

We don't celebrate thanksgiving, our stockmarket didn't crash in 1869 and we never had an Army vs Navy Football game! But I'm sure many of our employees will call in sick on Friday! hahaha

I'm all for a bargain on stuff I need, but these days what I need is money to pay the bills and put towards my kid's education, not a new air fryer or TV.

To all those out buying bargains, I salute you!

If you order the parts separately, then you don’t pay customs on bicycle components. You still pay VAT and clearing fees.

If you buy the bike complete you will pay customs as well as the other fees.

It was standard, but I did have to pay extra for a bulky item (it was like 50 GBP, but a trainer is pretty substantial so seems fair). It was with DHL and I got full tracking so maybe because it was "Bulky" I automatically got priority tracked?

There were genuinely some really good deals on there, so was able to get a few things I need by waiting for this.

What was the customs amount you paid?

My purchase (including a couple of other parts, and the delivery fee) was R8662.62 and my fee to DHL was R1411,25 (includes a R200 flat fee for admin). I tried to be careful and not include things that have duties (like clothing).

Strange that you never paid customs on a trainer as technically this doesn’t qualify has bicycle parts.
