I have a TREK 9.8 full carbon hard tail - everytime i upgraded my 29er the old parts went onto the 26er

So today its has full XO SRAM 1 X 10 incl brakes with 720mm bars - REBA fork - American Classic tubeless wheels.

The only thing I couldn't do was upgrade to GX Eagle 1 X 12 when i went AXS on the 29er I think the cassette would be bigger than the rimĀ šŸ˜

I swear I'm gonna ride it one day againĀ

1994 Gary Fisher Tassajara steel frame, 3x8, Cantilever rim brakes

Drivetrains components are readily available locally and dirt cheap, ie. R180 for a Deore chain or R250 for a Deore 8Spd Cassette.

The chromoly steel frames are more forgiving than your average carbon equivalent. I luv my 26er.

That is a properly lekker bike dude! I can swear I saw you at the 947? Riding with a lady?

I'm keen to try and source an "aggressive" 26er HT as a secondary single speed play / fun bike.

You can maybe try Cape Cycle sys see if they have an Alexrims in a 26er somthing like a MD25. I have seen them around at various shops. Can find old 29er wheels use the hubs to build nice 26er wheels.Ā

Was'nt me Tyron,

Did the 2021 36ONE Half on this bad boy.Ā

Try to pick up a complete donotbike rather tan a frame. Steel frames are pretty hard to come by at decent prices. Fortunately I bought my Fisher brand new in 1994 and simply could not part with it.

Decided to pimp it to a gravel monster in 20/21.

The geometry is awesome. I did my nut to keep it kinda stock. There was a time when rim brakes stopped the pro's like Fisher and Ritchey well enough. Why would it not stop anybody well enough today ā›”ļø

Keep looking for a frame. You will not regret taking your time on a project like this.

Good luck šŸ¤™

Thx Graham,

Came standard with 1.95 back in the day. I'm running an Ikon 2.35 TL on the back now. Dropout clearance is very tight BUT I've had zero issues with mud clogging or wheel removal. The 2.35 provides some comfort at the back.

2.2 profile up front with lots of clearance.

Lol 26ers are so perfect to throw around. And I would agree... They are hibernating in old age homes hehe. Glad to read there still some 26ers alive and kicking... With beast upgradesĀ

ā€¦after 3 Cape Epics on this bike, even though an S-Works Spez with a good group set, brain front AND rear, SEEMED to be worth about R5K on the 2nd hand market, laughable - to me - since it gave me so much pleasureā€¦So I slapped a 500W motor/ 500W batter on it, and have never looked backā€¦
