I'm running a KMC X11 chain on the road bike. When I put this chain on I put on a new cassette. I also switched to using Squirt lube at the same time.

I've been pretty consistent with wiping the chain down and lubing every 200km (give or take).

But now I'm sitting on 5000km with this chain and my Ice Tool Chain wear checker is still telling me there is no wear on the chain.

I used to run SRAM PC1110 chains, by 5000km they needed replacing.

If it still works fine, don’t mess with it.

Yes I’m from the KISS line of thinking team, there will be those who will insist otherwise

Why concerned? You’ve been cleaning it and lubing, it works? No wear…

Kmc obviously a better chain than the pc1110 which basically cost as much as 2 kmc Quicklinks lol.

I guess I'm just used to seeing wear from around 3000km.

I dont want to have the chain wear prematurely wear the cassette. Replacing chains is cheaper than replacing cassettes.

If you get that milage on a x11, id just get a X01 chain at R1200 ish and ride it for 5years+ haha. You’ll probably wear out the cassette befor the chain then. You easily get that milage on a dirty mtb with those chains. No brainer

On my last kmc x11 chain on my road bike, I replaced it after 15k km (0.5 wear on parktool checker)… using smoove lube… Many of those km were on the idt though, but still, the life of the chain surprised me.

It's the Lube and Chain Combination.

Squirt is No 1 and Smoove is a close 2nd.

You Have been Lubing Correctly with the Top Lube.

Keep Doing What You are Doing, Don't Change a Thing.

I'm at 12000 Km on a KMC X10 (Squirt Lube) (Every 100 Km Lube and No De-Greasing)

Impressive guys, also fitted a KMC recently and have adopted the wax method, bike is mostly used on IDT but will soon be doing double duty as a gravel steed as well so will be monitoring it closely.

In todays episode of "Should I be concerned"

Hit something in the dark this morning. Probably a large stone. It made the rear wheel hop sideway.

Straight afterwards my drivetrain was making a noise and I could feel there was added resistance. Backpedalling and I could feel the chain was not moving freely.

I could not stop right there, it was not a safe area, so I continued for another km or so to where it was safer and had more light.

Checking what the issue was and I discover the chain has come off the lower pulley wheel. Put it back and continued as normal.

My guess is that after 20 000km and numerous chains, the pulley wheels probably need changing.

It may just have been a fluke thing where the wheel bounced at just the right angle combined with no tension on the chain at just the right time.

Easy to check and replace pulley wheels. If they look like ninja stars it's time for new ones
