Bit underrated my much maligned trek

The right year, 1999 - quite a historically significant bike in that it was the first non European bike to finish the TDF first* and seriously nice to ride - it weighs 8kgs dead and that 10 speed veloce not the lightest groupset - another piece of useless info is that the frame at 912g was revolutionary and consumers got the same frame as the team

The fact that Lance later gave it a bad reputation should not detract from the fact that it was a fantastic bike. Pretty sure it can easily be built to below 7kg with pretty much stock standard bits from the time.

We started off a lekker ride, riding the first 30km of GKT, beautiful ride to start off a "race", and my companions persuaded me to change the route.

Then once on the straight flat? gravel roads, I decided to take a pic of the Windvogelberg, a landmark of note, when I hit a patch of corrugations. Bike went one way(and it's okay if anyone is worried, but the Bigwig takes more than a flat road spill to damage it) and I went the other way.

The pic

My knee was a mess. Ended up in surgery to clean the knee joint.

Bliksem. Hope you heal well dean!

Was it break lever damage? Or sharp object on the ground? Looks like you did a proper job there.

Haven't a clue, but when the doc saw me this morning he said that the cut was the tip of the iceberg. There's apparently extensive degloving up the leg, so will be out of action for a while.

My wife gets the moerin with me because I insist that I can do it myself. I'm not an invalid and I have a very high pain threshold and don't like taking pills.[emoji23]
