Have had a couple of DM's etc asking how our Zambian chap got on - he started in G batch.

I'm no expert on the 947 - but this seems like he had a decent day out?

Can someone share how many starters vs finishers?

Well done to all who started and those who finished. If you noticed you heard me cheering in Alexander Rd Fourways, on the gentle climb before the left turn. Was a lekker day to support and I might make it in with an entry next year. 😄

Hope you had a good ride in whatever group you started in.
We went out quite quickly, with less than a 1/3 of the start group making it to Kyalami. 😊

Mixed bag of feelings for this one, happy I finished but not really happy with my time or decisions on the day.

On the highway leading up to Woodmead, I am terrible with road names so I dont know what highway it is, I was having a decent time, till I noticed some wheelsuckers on me, I am big so naturally, on the downs I am pretty fast, anyway, at one point I commented and asked if they are enjoying the tow, to which I got a few laughs, and they said they would return the favour, so I thought I would push a little harder to get a good pace going, and they did help out a little here and there,  but everytime they got on the front the pace dropped quite a bit, so just because I am an idiot, I stayed on the front more than I should have, anyway, at the water point just before Woodmead, the road got a little crowded and people just weren't riding so lekker, and the 3 dudes that were riding with me just disappeared ahead 🫠 and from there on it was kinda lonely, joined the odd group till Kyalami, tried to recoup from burning myself out, but my left Hammie was really upset with me, so I just kinda plodded along from there, I knew my day was over.

My consolation prize, 2 of the guys that dropped me, I caught and passed on Jan Smuts, and the last guy I caught and passed on the M2 just after the last waterpoint, glad I beat them 🤣🤣 from there I think the guys name is Mike, from Carbon Bike Repair, we rode and chatted a little and he gave me a nice pull for the last stretch which was pretty fun.

Ag well, goals not met, but it was still a lekker day out with no incidents, so it was a good day 💪🏼

Very lekker day out yesterday.  18th medal in the bag.  Always have to remind myself to take a chill-pill on the highway out to Woodmead.  Pays dividends in the second half.  I ride a 40 year old bike with downtube shifters - I lost count of the number of superbikes I passed (and I was gong real slow!)......Sometimes I get the idea that people think if they drop huge cash on equipment they'll have a good ride......anyway - well done to the organisers, marshalls, traffic officials and the Joburg motorists for giving us a real special day. Awesome!  (PS - if the organisers read this please create a category for vintage bikes - there are quite a few of them still on the roads today 🙂 )

Our team started in D, the goal, Sub 3.
we made lite work of the first half, pulling huge bunches along with us.
second half we slogged a bit and the team got split up, but we all crossed the line in under 3.

was a good day out

oh and I think I got my nutrition wrong, been having gut issues since I came home

turns put its probably not the nutrition that caused the gut issues, looks like I picked up some stomach bug. Not sure how and where though, but between the sweat loss through the ride and the constant visits to the loo yesterday afternoon and evening, I'm 2kg lighter than I was an saturday.

Did my 14th yesterday, another really well orgainsed event I have to say. I don't thnk we know how much planning and organisation must go behind the scenes to pull it off like this. Well done to all who rode. I hope this event continues for years to come!

I really enjoyed my ride yesterday. I think I missed the thrill of sitting in a big group of compliant riders doing 60km/h and not having to pedal hard. Also I underestimated my fitness, so taking it easy in the fist half, meant I had lots in the tank the second half.

Well done to the organizers, very well run event.

I helped a Tandem that was really struggling before Kyalami, stopped to take some pictures along the way, helped another man that was cramping after kyalami, then pushed him back to the medic and then enjoyed a beer at around 70km, helped another guy with a mechanical but sadly I could not fix his derailer that was completely stuffed.
