That section is fine, but you have to under this problematic Church Street bridge to get there if you are coming from Milnerton side.
If you are coming from Southern Suburbs, you need to go over the bridge. Also a problem.

Coming from Milnerton side then the risk is that those bozo's could just as easily push you into the traffic. lose either way.

Yes i know what you all going to say ride in a group, I was last guy off a group on the N1 this morning before woodstock bridge. I was mugged knocked off my bike before 6am. phone n stuff stolen . still got my bike thankfully

One guy on side of road I moved to middle lane next thing I felt a smack on the shoulder then was down on the road his buddy came ,made sure I was staying down kicking me hard , they went through my pockets took everything.

They have figured out when the police do shift changes and know when no one is watching , they run towards the railway lines. According to the police they steal for the Tanzanian people take it to the side road cell phone shops, clean the phone undo the lock ,change the network so they can use it in their county and ship them out
To other cyclists, Let me say one thing and listen when I say this they have no regard for your life, to them your life is worthless, you nothing to them all they want is what you have. Your life is nothing! If you fight back they get worse last week someone fought back and was stabbed and killed they, have no regard for your or our lives we are worth nothing to them!

They just want what we have. Sadly after this I have no respect for their race of people. For the elderly gentleman taking staff to work and stopping making sure I’m okay and to let me call my brother to fetch me, true gentleman also checked up later to see how I am
I was at the Woodstock police station to make report when another cyclist was there already, also being mugged from his stuff. Sadly but we can no longer get on our bicycle and ride and enjoy the sport we love. So at the Politicians’ and everyone they says we know about the area just avoid it , ride in groups NOT always that easy. Try ride past there yourself and see what happens. So when are you as people going to start doing something about it, because trust me when I say this, one day will come we will all have had enough and will take revenge ourselves
i am in lots of pain will need new cycling helmet ribs will heal nothing good old pain tablets cant sort out. so im off the bike for now

Sadly, you have lost respect for their race / ethnicity for the behaviour of a select few individuals that have hurt you.

It may be hard not to generalise and create a bias towards a racial group; always try not to. That is how hatred is born. And that only caps your humanity.

This is also a message and reminder to myself as I live in a world that is so polarised and absent of compassion.

You are safe, that matters most. Hope you can ride your bicycle with freedom from fear soon again.

This is so frustrating. Got my wife into cycling this year and our early morning trips to Ciovita and Camps Bay for a coffee is a favourite.

Just not worth putting her in danger so hope they take action soon.

I can see myself watching a story about this on Carte Blanche.

Hi All I was attached on 24th Nov coming out of Town just after the Woodstock bridge 0705, before you know it they were on me, came out of know where and took me to the ground and just took my phone, second guy had a knife and should you fight them they will use force, they are after phones. Something must be done as when I reported to Woodstock cops they are well aware of situation.

Be safe out there

Please send your case # to Liz, they are trying to get all the role players around the table to try and get this situation under control.

Hi all.. In Durban we have similar issues on our beachfront near the blue lagoon on early morning rides.. They throw a large stick.or branch into the road causing u to fall and then they rob u of valuables u may be carrying.. phones..watches.. etc..

It seems these see done to lone riders.. so we stay in small groups all the time..

Sad state of affairs

As @Dale said, the tone and speech is also not the best way to get a very important comment across. Hope you’re healing up.

Be safe.

Received communication from Transnet, they are also hard at work to resolve this issue, and any and all info they get will help strengthen their case in their application for the eviction of the illegal squatters on their land.

So please, share it wide with anyone who was attacked along this stretch at any time, to send it to liz@pedalpower.org.za with the SAPS case number. She will then forward it to the relevant role players.

I've got to say, you should be commended for finding the right people to contact, chasing them yourself and chasing others on this forum to do the same. Bitching about something on bikehub does actually have some benefits (like raising awareness within our own community) but ultimately we should be sending factual information to decision makers.

So thanks for always nudging this conversation in the right direction.

Agree, thanks @Wannabe

@Nick @Matt our esteemed overlords…is there a way to pin, sticky whatever Wannabe’s post calling for people to come forward with info?

Seems his efforts yielded some fruit and this is gaining traction. Cant help but feel that now is the time to do what we can to help the situation - for all of us.

It has to gain enough steam before the end of the year, otherwise people will just conveniently forget over the holidays. Cant we muster 10000 signatures on a petition too?

Thanks for the kind words, Nick and Morne.

There was a lot of indignity and anger/resentment due to the spate of attacks and apparent lack of action on the authority's side. It just needed to be brought under the attention of the right decision makers. Looks like we got a bit of attention and traction here, so let's try and keep it going, less it peters out over the holiday period. (the criminals are not going to go away on holiday though)

Keep the pressure on without getting rude or too aggressive towards the persons who reacted and got involved with trying to resolve this situation. They are also only a cog in the wheel and has protocols to follow. We can easily lose their sympathy or willingness to assist if we rub them up the wrong way.

I would suggest we keep the following people honest in their efforts to resolve this issue as they are the ones who responded to my mails and got the ball rolling. Keep any mails to them civil.......

1) Firhana.Sam@transnet.net

2) liz@pedalpower.org.za

3) Louis.Cason@capetown.gov.za

The following ones could be cc'd into any mails send to the above.

1) bcreecy@parliament.gov.za

2) alan.winde@westerncape.gov.za

3) mayor.mayor@capetown.gov.za

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but engaging with the ward Councillor Ian McMahon may help.

Were you on the actual N1 when it happened? I wonder if the authorities are reluctant to take action as cyclists arent allowed on the national highways. So by them doing something about it means they will have to enforce other laws and create a bigger **** storm

Dont shoot me, Im just reading what is typed here that it happend on the N1

And 10 000 signatures on a petion helps nada, its just to distract you away from the politician to give him space to go for lunch
