I have decided to bite the bullet and buy it......please send a pic of the serial number does NOT mean a sale has been concluded and many times the buyer will still walk away.

I do keep items for buyers but tell them I will be in touch if a new buyer wants it sooner, that way they have the option.

As per a previous poster, I have been bitten before and the first one to put money in my hands gets it.....

Totally I have seen more firm commitment from a kid who just kissed a girl at a school disco...

Exactly , first right of refusal to whom you seemingly had an agreement with .
a courtesy message informing the individual that you had a firm offer and would accept if no payment was made would have gone a long way.

It seems there was some wrongdoing on both sides, particularly on the seller's side. The buyer requested the first option, and the seller agreed. The buyer then asked for photos, to which the seller also agreed. However, the photos were not forthcoming, and the seller chose to ghost the buyer. He likely found a local buyer and didn't want the hassle of boxing and shipping to KZN. The seller made commitments and led buyer on the seller did not uphold his end of the deal. Bike Hub T&c aside i would probably also give 1 star.

Indeed.  Would you mind elaborating on what you think was wrongdoing from my side?

I agree with you 100%—first come, first served. However, in this scenario, the buyer was given dibs, and at no point did the seller inform the buyer that if someone else came along with cash, he would have to let it go. Instead, the seller led the buyer to believe that the deal would be concluded by committing to send photos. He then proceeded to ignore a phone call and all subsequent messages. Does he owe the buyer an explanation for not honoring the first option agreement? Probably not, but any decent person would reply, even just to say, "Sorry, I have another interested party. Do you still want it, or can I let it go?"

Not buy it. I said I'd take it.  After saying earlier that I was super keen.

That was a pretty firm commitment.  Obviously I wasn't going to make payment until getting the info I asked for.

Seller was not considerate or professional.  Especially with the ghosting after.  And even more so now with his embellished take on how I engaged with him.

Maybe you should have called the next day when you were in a better frame of mind. Without the comments that you had a drink or two, the seller might have taken it more seriously.

So the spat between DMH and Cycleguy10000 has progressed from a private whatsapp conversation gone wrong on a purchase, to here on the open forum.

Nice, let me get my popcorn out and my marshmallow easter eggs

I often wonder when age comes into play with these kinds of situations. I mean, are the seller and buyer both 12? Maybe its easier to just sommer move on from it, life's not that short

I have contacted him privately asking to remove the rating, but instead he replied with a sarcastic GIF, that is why I created a forum to receive some advice.

I think you will find that you only have yourself to blame for the situation you find yourself in. You made the decision not to sell to him based on your conversation, yet you continued to lead the buyer on and made promises you had no intention of keeping. Why didn't you cut the sale short in the beginning? Why did you sell the item if you clearly stated that the buyer had the first option? Why didn't you give the buyer a courtesy call to ask if he was still interested before selling, when you already had an agreement in place? Why didn’t you send the photos and information the buyer requested? Did you sell the item to someone who asked fewer questions or perhaps didn’t require shipping? Your moral and ethical compass seems a bit off, yet you create a thread seeking sympathy. Maybe you should sit back and reflect on whether your actions were entirely honorable.
