  1. So I've always wanted to commute. I mean, who doesn't want more riding time!?? But, my job is driving. I drive a lot, all over the city to get to our clients and work with my team. So I've always juts thought I'm not fortunate enough to do it. But then I figured out, I live 22 kilos from the office. It's a flat road with shoulder, but it's windy most days. My office has no shower facilities so I have to ride slow enough to not pitch up for work sweaty. Riding home I can blast it. So I figured I can leave my car parked at the office overnight, and inside it is new shirts and underwear, and I just pop my bike on the back seat during the day. I then drive around, see everyone I need to, and drive back to the office in the afternoon and ride home. Repeat. While it's not ideal, it's ******* brilliant. I feel great, burn 1100 calories one way, and now fit in 44kms of riding a day. I do bitch out a bit and skip very windy or wet days, but it's absolutely awesome. Buying a single speed now to avoid maintenance and riding through kuilsriver with a 60k bike, so excited to see what the single speed side of riding will be like. I've always wanted one but now have the reason to actually do it!!!
  2. I have a power meter, but I'm the first to admit I don't use it to its full potential. As a fat kid, I find it useful in helping me to avoid blowing up, especially when attempting to keep up with someone on a climb. For this function, it's extremely useful and let's me quantify exactly how hard I'm going, and what's left in the tank. Feels like cheating just with riding on it. I can only imagine the benefits when using it on a structured schedule.
  3. Do yourself a favour and make the trek to anton at summit cycles. This isnt a mavic issue, just a *** wheelbuilder. Anton won't charge the earth but his wheel skills are amazing. Very much worthwhile. My chinese wheels are still 100% a year and a half later after his fiddling. And you know my weight class. Hahaha good luck boet
  4. Hahaha the envy is strong. I cannot explain enough how much I love this bike. I'll starve before it leaves my hands. I would recommend them to anyone looking for any kind of road bike. It's more than capable and so so sweet to ride.
  5. This bike gets the most love and attention of anything I own. Haha dont judge!
  6. Simple but effective. Fluid trainer with Stages PM. TV comes next for sufferfest vids and other entertainment.
  7. Try out swisstop pads with the pads sent toe in. Place a credit card inbetween the back half of the pad and the rim, squeeze brakes, loosen and retighten cartridges. . Should sort it out.
  8. Ha you should do what we did as kids on our brake less bmxs. Shove the sole of your shoe against the top of your rear tyre above the seat stays. It wears your shoes and tyres but it slows you down quick without an otb
  9. What most people don't understand is that almost all of the crank based meters are one sided measuring devices. They are simply able to less accurately measure the other side via estimation of force, despite the strain gauges only being on one side of the device. SRM, power2max, etc are all one sided. They just display the opposite side. I think pioneer is the only truly double sided meter on the market (despite recovering athletes on team sky using prototype dual sided stages meters). Even power2max executives have admitted that "dual sided" measurement is simply a marketing scheme and that one sided is all that is necessary. Let's also not forget that SRM has constantly denied any use for a two sided measuring power meter, and that they will not pursue development of such. I had a power2max, and all that meter does is put your mind at ease that you're not lopsided. Since I know that now, I've switched to stages as it's far less issue, much more stealth, and astheticaly pleasing. Add to that the revised design on the new pods and they're a pretty remarkable package. And the power measurement is just as reliable for the everyday rider, and clearly for the Pro riders too.
  10. Have done a BG fit after a Cyclefit session. Must be honest. Cyclefit was revelatory. I still had some issues. Johan at helderberg cycle world picked up on them and has brought me to a level of comfort I didn't know was possible. For the low cost of both of them, why not? I would go to Cyclefit first, be sure of the thins you don't want to change, and let BG sort out the details. Worked for me.
  11. I do two things. Sand down the brake pad faces every now and then, and make sure you set your pads toe in. Changing to swisstop black prince was a life changer on my carbon wheels:)
  12. First off - having two accounts is not allowed and should be banned from both. I can't understand how you're slagging off a very well respected brand in both performance and customer service when clearly the issue was with a retailer who treated your friends case badly? Cajees is so well known for being the dodgiest, crappest shops around. They are a few grand cheaper, but you get what you pay for in the cycling world. Your friend should contact giant directly and dispute it. You will likely find the shop didn't even approach giant in the first place. Your resentment for the brand is very badly placed and you need to reevaluate the situation.
  13. Yoh that's a seriously sickening bunch of crashes. The first one was horrible, the second one with the motorbike was bad too. Wow. Strongs to all the riders involved.
  14. Hahaha the size put me off something aweful. The 500 was always the "right" size. I'm pissed as the screen on the 510 is like 60% of its frontal surface area. But the new 520 isn't much smaller, but the screen takes up more of the unit. So I doubt I'll be getting rid of the 510 just because.
  15. I dunno so much. As a 510 owner, it looks very pretty, but it's not much smaller/flatter which is what my only gripe with the 510 is.
  16. It looks like trek just updated the venge.
  17. Nah. I'll bet this is like the Porsche Cayman. If thy made it any better, no one would buy the premium model. Only downside on this one (if it had power) is battery life. That said though, I've not needed it longer than 7 hours on the road anyway.
  18. lack of power data is a problem for a lot of roadies though. Size is nice and I like the concept. But power data is a big part of most people's training nowadays, especially as power meter prices continue to drop lower.
  19. I had a lovely experience that showed me the strength of Chinese carbon wheels. I ride flyxii 2m wide, 38mm deep wheels. 25mm gatorskins. I weigh 110kgs. Going downhill 3 weeks ago, I hit a pothole. Hard. Doing 65kph, I thought for sure, after the noises generated, that I must have bust the rim. At least definitely popped the tube. But after frantically slowin down to avoid comin off with a flat front wheel, I saw absolutely no damage. Not even a scratch. The handlebars had turned themselves in te stem, but wheels were absolutely perfect. Not even out of true or anything. These things are bombproof after that hit. I've broken Alu wheels on far smaller hits. Love these wheels.
  20. I like the look of these. It's like a radarlock had a child with a racing jacket and this is the kid that was left on frogskins' doorstep. However, the rim has always been a problem with the jawbones - ventilation wise, and more vitally, peripheral vision. But they look cool.
  21. Am I the only person who hates the look of the shifters??
  22. Anton has always been such an amazing bike shop owner to deal with. He's the only mechanic I trust with my bike and is the best wheel guru around. Plus, he's a fantastic guy too. Knows his stuff when it comes to most things, and is a always ready to help you, after laughing first! And his contributions to the Hub are invaluable too. Best guy in the industry around. Seriously.
  23. Sorry, but I don't get this at all. The guy is in the front bunch after 230-odd kms of racing, has a chance to contest the sprint in one of the biggest one day races in the calendar. Is likely under immense pressure from his employers to deliver a result, as is pumped full of adrenaline at that moment, and comes down from someone else stuffing up. You telling me you wouldn't have lost your **** too?? This is cycling, not cricket. I think there's little room for gentlemanly gestures.
  24. That was ciolek. But I think, at tht level, understandable, yeah? My particular piece of hurt was the cervelo and it's Di2 derailer dragged and bashed on the floor in the same rant, after the rear wheel fell out. Bikes worth more than my ******* car.
  25. Windy ride on the R44 this afternoon.
