Hahahaha. I think I need to do this going forward too, seems like quite a few folks take offence to anything, and everything, even when said in jest/with a sarcastic undertone. 🤣

Seems to be a common occurence as of late, seems people are quite tightly wound overall. Combine that with reading for reaction and not understanding and we have a winner:oops:.

*CPT surfer/Enduro bro voice*, not us from CPT though, we are living the slower life here...

    Uhm ....

Takes me to the Club web page - "Member verification" ....

NO info that I can see.  Not sure if the Marchels will have more access.

Has been patched already, earlier today you could see the entire member profile.
ID through to medical aid details, and it was not secured.

Have you scanned the QR code to view the jumbled text?
The text that was supposed to show the members emergency contact details and details...

Shouldn't have blown up. Depending on the web service provider hosting the e-commerce side and their ability to handle the sort of traffic that you would typically expect from Takealot on a slow day for something very few people want, there is no reason for a couple of people logging in causing this type of system failure. If that was the case then the service provider needs to buy more virtual server capacity, but knowing what kind of money needs to change hands, usually in USD, it makes sense that it is running on bare minimum to cater for the handful of usual connections on any typical day.

Edit: I do find that often designers spend way too much time and money in making something pretty and in the process neglect the functional side of the solution being provided. An example of that aside from the e-commerce failure is the coming soon notice that meets you when you view the reward partner section. I would like to know where I can go to use my club affiliation, specifically if TWT is still onboard, but nothing so far indicating that this is an option. Form over function works in fashion, not in tech spaces.

Agreed on most points, but there are service providers in South Africa, that are relatively speaking much much cheaper than the competitors based internationally.

Absolute hosting being one, with the option to scale services up at a 5/10 minute time interval and downgrade at the end of the month.

Seems that the DB couldn't handle more than about 20 simultaneous connections, which as you say is server capacity, or a very poor architecture (form over function).

A few things about the new site that still need to be improved upon and completed. Taking away the option to get your bread and butter money though was never a good idea.

(Also why was the site not put through a round of user testing, to ensure all processes actually performed as expected?)

Multiple failures to implement standard practices...

Why is this being allowed? Why is the WC government and SAPS and SANParks not doing anything about it? Is the plan to completely muck up the tourism industry in the Cape, which is the top tourist destination in SA?

A lot has to do with the recent release of prisoners at the end of October...
(Think someone else mentioned this as well)

Durbanville and the Northern suburbs have seen an increased presence of criminal elements as well, not just a Table Mountain/Southern suburbs issue.

NOT pure cycling related, but my CAPE cycling buddy was in Pretoria recently - as a videographer, was involved in an accident with a massive truck (not of HIS doing), passed out after accident with a massive gash to his head, came around to find he was being robbed inside a car wreck, broke the BACK of his hand on one of the robbers teeth, could not cycle for 3+ months due to injuries…

I have Sister and brother-in law living near Brooklyn, and my PERCEPTION is it is a quiet, chilled area compared to Jozi; these incidents above REALLY make me reconsider, and I am not naive…

    Sad.

    Chris

Sorry to hear that! Hope he recovered!

    (Not cycling related completely)
Having stayed in Pretoria for studies, I can say that Pretoria (Hatfield, Brooklyn and Lynnwood) are not as safe as they once were. Recently a friend's house in Brooklyn was broken into, early afternoon, held at gunpoint , all valuables and car redistributed...
Know of a few other stories, but generally not pleasant...
There is a whole carte blanche documentary on the night life (link) in Pretoria.
Also highlights how little the police are willing to do, even going as far as declining an interview.

From a cycling perspective in Pretoria, I have found Lynnwood road into Graham road and down to Kitty Hawk airfield to be relatively safe and a lot of other cyclists are out there too.

    Hi Erik.

I saw Aron’s reply, and thought to give you some of my input.

i 100% agree with him regarding every statement. If you are however looking to take riding to the next level, I am currently selling my 2020 Evil Insurgent with 160mm of travel front and rear for R50 000.00. See my advert for any more information and hit me up if there’s anything you want to know.

For XCO and XCM, is 160mm not a bit excessive for those disciplines?:whistling:

CRC has been around for years and was i think better run before the Wiggle buy out. What other options are there in the UK for we bargain hunting Saffers?

I have used bike-discount.de before with good results.

I very much doubt the DQs had something to do with people starting in wrong batches or doing something wrong on the route.

Don't know if it has something to do with the timing system, one can only speculate, but if it does this does not augur well for the CTCT where you will have mass bunch starts. The technology seems to work well enough for runners and mtb'ing, does it work for bunches of cyclists crossing the racing line at speed? Only time will tell (as I am not aware of any specific testing)

The tech worked well at SA Road champs in February this year as well, same temporary numbers etc...

No issues with people being missed during checkpoints, start and finish, then again that was a different timing company...

    It’s a complete replacement crankset.
as for the Stages, they checked that crank arm but ruled it out as having signs of a problem. The consistency of my power data suggests this is the case anyway but I’ll have a wildly mismatched crankset now so I’ll see what stages says . At the moment it’s crickets on that front.

4iii issued a statement, if I remember correctly. Surprised Stages hasn't said anything on that front...

    https://4iiii.com/press-releases/shimano-safety-notice/
Now this begs the question, does one take the risk and buy a second hand crank based power meter?
