I can't say much at the moment, but I'm privileged enough to be working on the Bloodhound SSC project at Haakskeen Pan.  What an incredible place and what an incredible project.

 

That pan is so flat, that over the 20km track, the elevation change is less than 20cm.

 

Next year they are aiming to break the landspeed record, and then the following year to go over 1000mph.

Yup, did the Durban harbour mudlfats and mangroves as a varsity field trip, as we arrived saw 2 guys camped out in the middle with a beach brolly and two deck chairs, only to discover it was a friend doing a study on fiddler crabs, spending a month sitting there watching them.  Not sure his sense of smell ever recovered.
