Shebeen Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 I never got the point of fishing in the sense of throwing in the bait and waiting hours.  Bass and trout i get, and it is actually fun. I live by the coast and see loads of fisherman on the rocks on walks and runs. I've spoken to plenty of them over the years and have concluded that it is 10% catching fish 90% getting away from nagging wife. (either they hardly ever catch anything, or I really look like an undercover fisheries inspector) Pants Boy, Allrounder, Kalahari Vegmot and 2 others 5

Eddy Gordo Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 I fish with live bait and various other baits. Over the years the catch rate has seriously dropped. There is a crew who row out with nets from the shore and drag in everything even protected species and they get away with it. As a recreational fisherman, the inspectors are extremely strict to the full might of the law, but when it comes to commercial fisherman, they just seem to turn a blind eye. I was on a commercial boat a few years back, I caught a huge fish which was a protected species, and as I was about to return it to the water,  one of the crew claimed the fish, stuffed it into some bags and then into a back pack. I stopped fishing right there and couldnt wait for the morning to be over.
