A friend and I were discussing our trips to the local library to do research for school projects.... today everything is really more efficient thanks to technology..but those library trips used to be nice..we would all work on our projects together...and would 9/10 become a bit of a social event..

Before, during and after pics. Got a braai from a friend and I decided to refurbish it today. Did a lot of cleaning the rust off with a baby grinder and a hammer. And yes, I decided too late to put on my overall.

fark I hate those steel braais. rust buckets of note. you have to continuously paint them to keep them looking decent. talking at the coast here. I'm at the point of taking an angle grinder and cutting mine out of the wall at home.

I am looking at getting one. Have considered stainless but its costly. Would a galvanised braai work?

doubt it. galvanizing will burn off and rust will set in. mine is outside though - will probably last longer inside..

Mine is under roof, been going for 8 years now, not a spot of rust.

But I must admit, I do a thorough "wipe down/degrease" once a year (normaly over December break) and then a good lick of high temp fireplace paint.

As far as I know, galvanized metal creates toxic fumes if heated. Saw it somewhere on a knife making channel or something.

Those stainless braais get to hot to use in summer.
